It’s a well-known fact that scary experiences bring people together, so if you’re looking to take your relationship with your lover, best mate or mum to the next level you might just have to face some of your worst fears with them.
So, to set you on your way to some sweat-inducing, spine tingling, heart pounding fun, we’ve teamed up with our mates at Village Roadshow to celebrate the release of IT (because there is nothing scarier than a clown) and put together a list of some scary AF things to do in Melbourne.
Go forth and freak out!
#1 Go See A Horror Flick
Grab some popcorn, Maltesers and liquid courage and head to the movies to watch the latest bad dream-inducing flick, IT. Based on Stephen King’s 1986 novel about a child eating clown, the movie stars Mike from Stranger Things and will have your S/O cuddling up to you in no time #score!
#2 Book Dinner And A Ghost Tour
A short drive from the city, the Eynesbury Homestead Ghost Tour is teaming with paranormal vibes. Kick off your night of ghost busting fun with dinner at the homestead before creeping to the haunted lake, eeire stables, abandoned meat room and servant’s quarters, exploring all the freaky nooks and crannies along the way.
#3 Hang Out With A Hangman In Gaol
Join the head lynch man on the Hangman’s Night Tour at the Old Melbourne Gaol and hear spooky stories as you are led by candlelight down to the gallows. There were 133 hangings at the prison during its lifetime and the headless bodies of Ned Kelly and serial killer Frederick Bailey Deeming are said to be buried right on site—be careful not to awaken their spirits!
#4 Jump Out Of A Plane
If you can muster up the courage to dive head first out of a plane 15,000 feet in the air you and your hunny bunny will be treated to 360 degree views of Melbourne and Port Phillip Bay. Don’t let the 60 second free fall turn you off!
#5 Find Your Way Out Of An Escape Room
If being kidnapped, surrounded in blood and severed body parts sounds like your idea of scary fun, then head to Strike Escape Rooms and try to find your way out, and fast. Trapt is also home to some freaky rooms—Biohazard is said to be more difficult than surviving a zombie apocalypse.
#6 Experience An Adrenalin Rush In The Great Outdoors
Conquer your fears of heights and small spaces on an abseiling, rock climbing and caving private tour with Melbourne Adventure Hub. Kick off with a morning of scaling up and down cliff faces before calming your nerves with lunch at the Yarra Junction, then spend all afternoon slithering your way through an underground labyrinth of glow worms and cave crickets.
#7 Dress Up As Pennywise From IT And Have A Photoshoot
Join the creeps that hang out in your local park and take creepy photos of your date dressed as everyone’s least favourite clown, Pennywise, from the movie IT. See here for some inspiration.
#8 Hop On The Ghost Train At Luna Park
If all of the above sounds a little too scary for you then head to Luna Park and hop on the Ghost Train with your sweetie. Featuring mild terrors, ghosts and ghouls, the spooky ride only lasts a few minutes and you can find comfort in the fact that there’ll be a whole lot of fairy floss waiting for you at the other end.
IT hits cinemas Australia-wide from September 7.
