Nelson Mandela would have turned 100 this year. Seems as good a reason as any to launch a massive, worldwide exhibition and retrospective, right?
Hosted by the Melbourne Museum, Mandela, My Life is coming to town in September next year. And here’s the big news: Melbourne is the first city in THE WORLD to get it. Yep, the 20-city tour is kicking off right here in Victoria.
The exhibition is going to be the most comprehensive collection of Mandela memorabilia ever assembled outside South Africa. It’ll include warrants of committal for Mandela’s 27-year prison sentence, a range of the human right icon’s personal artifacts, as well as video and audio archives. The whole thing’s being endorsed by the Nelson Mandela Foundation, an organisation set up in 1999 to manage Mandela’s vast charitable and diplomatic work.
Melbourne was actually one of the first city’s Mandela visited after his release from prison (he popped by in October 1999). He even holds the highest honour in Melbourne—the Freedom Of The City.
Tickets for the new exhibition will be going on sale early next year.
