Surprise, surprise: temperatures have risen yet again. But we're willing to overlook the heat because the long weekend is here at last. And as always, Melbourne doesn't disappoint on the "things to do" front: standouts this week include a Weirdoughs ice cream giveaway, a new cheesecake at Nobu and loaded Schnitzels.

So sit tight and catch up on all the food news you missed this week:

  • Head down to the Spritz & Snack Party at Pilgrim Bar and soak up Australian charcuterie from 63 producers and top chefs, as well as tunes from locals DJs. The event is on fortnightly, every Saturday afternoon from 2 pm to 6pm—a well-spent $25, if you ask us.

  • Cheesecake is everything, and so is Nobu’s exclusive AO dessert. The Yuzu cheesecake is filled with a passionfruit mango sauce, served on a green tea custard tart with blueberries and lemon balm leaves. We're already drooling. Learn more here.

  • We love a parma, especially a loaded one. Lucky for us, Rockpool Dining Group has five great loaded schnitzels on offer, from the Italian or a classic Bavarian dish at Munich Brauhaus, all for $30. Everyone's favourite, The Mexican, is back by popular demand. Dare to live on the edge? Scoff down a 1kg Schnitzel with sides, worth $80, in under an hour and it’s on the house.

  • It’s truffle season in France, so head chef Donovan Cooke has re-launched his new menu at Ryne. Open for dinner Wednesdays to Sundays, the black truffle menu starts from $250 per person. Reservations are essential, so call or book online at the French Fitzroy restaurant here.

  • Ice cream and scorching heat pretty much go hand-in-hand. Weirdoughs' 1000 free (yep, you read that right) ice cream giveaway menu is split into three categories: Weird, Weirder, and Weird AF. Standouts? The fried Queensland mango with turmeric, Aperol, Black Orange or Eggplant Lavender. You can get your free ice cream at Weirdoughs on 241 Flinders Lane on Friday, 25 January from 4 pm onwards.
