Spring has fiiiiinally sprung, which means sunny weekends that you’ll want to make the must of. And if you’re in need of a reason to lock in your first road trip since last summer, look no further than Shedfest 2016—an epic celebration of all things good in life—AKA food, wine, live music and epic scenery, only a short drive away from Melbourne.
Taking you on a tour of the Yarra Valley’s lesser known and all-round more fun wineries and restaurants, Shedfest takes place on Saturday 8 and Sunday 9 October throughout the region. If planning a route that hits up the hidden gems of Coldstream, Hoddles Creek, Seville and Dixon’s Creek, all in one trip, is your idea of a weekend well spent, you’ll want to grab your diary and get those dates locked in, pronto.
Shedfest 2016 is crammed full of non-stop festivities, spanning no less than 14 destinations, all of which will be serving wine and tasting plates created especially for the occasion. From unique bottlings of the areas top tipples, to mouth-watering dishes created from the area’s best produce, you can look forward to a weekend of non-stop foodie action that’s definitely worth getting out of town for.
Some of the names we’re looking out for include Whispering Hills Vineyard (one of the only local wineries with its very own wood-fired sourdough pizza oven on site) who are prepping some epic cheese platters, as well as a chocolate and wattleseed tart for the occasion. The team at Yarra Peaks are hard at work ready to satiate your hunger with spit roasted lamb, falafel and Mediterranean salads. And if you’re looking for a stop-off that’s got enough space for you and a fleet of mates, road-tripping it from the city, check out Yering Farm, where ‘pruner’s platters’—a local twist on a ploughman’s lunch—will be served on the deck, overlooking one of the best views in the valley.
If all that food and drink action is getting you hot under the collar, you’ll be stoked to know that vegos are catered for too, and the sweets line-up includes New York-style cheesecake, Yarra Valley Chocolaterie brownies, ricotta and lemon tarts, and a triple chocolate Tiramisu. Cheat day? More like cheat weekend!
Shedfest is shaping up to be one of the best foodie events of the season, and is an absolute bargain at only $15 per ticket, which includes a wine glass to take home and grants you access to every venue on the festival trail. Things kick off at 10am on Saturday 8 and Sunday 9 October, and wrap up at around 5pm each evening (but we hear there’ll be a few evening get-togethers in Yarra Valley pubs—just ask the locals for their recommendations).
Better yet, we’re giving away the ultimate weekend at Shedfest 2016, including two nights luxury accommodation in a King Room at the beautiful Oscars On The Yarra, including breakfast, two tickets to Shedfest (including food vouchers), and FOUR bottles of wine from Yarra Valley Smaller Wineries. Is there a better way to spend a weekend?!
