Team, it’s time to roll the clock back. We’re in the mid-90’s, every kid is rocking a sweet, sweet billy cart, and it’s time to race those testaments-to-dad’s-non-motorised-car-building-skill downhill at a very unsafe speed.
We learnt everything we know about billy carting from The Simpsons episode Saturdays Of Thunder, where three-time soapbox champion Ronny Beck imparted his wisdom of racing via the vessel of Bart Simpson—and this weekend is where it all pays off.
This weekend as part of the Warrandyte Festival marks the event of the year—the Warrandyte Festival Billy Cart Derby.
If you’re into sending yourself down the streets of one of Melbourne’s most hilly suburbs and possibly lose a limb in the process, this is definitely the event for you.
Registrations for the event open from 9am, with races kicking off from 9:30, and it’ll only set you back $10 to enter.
There are a few rules that you’ll need to adhere to before you can get racing which you can read about here, and of course; entering is at your own risk.
