There’s something about ramen that just always seems to make us so happy. It’s warm, it’s comforting and it doesn’t break the bank. We like to think of it as a big old hug packaged up in a bowl.
So when a new ramen joint opened on the Coast recently we were understandably excited, but after eating there, we are now officially obsessed. That’s right, Umami Ramen is so good that locals on the Coast have been flocking to the new hotspot since it opened. Think: a piping hot bowl of slow brewed broth, velvety smooth noodles, finely sliced tender meat, and all the fixings coming together to create a mouth-watering dish that will leave you wanting more. And then possibly more again.
The interior is understated, fresh and clean, just like the noms they have on offer. It feels slightly coastal with a hint of Scandi and nothing is overly fancy or complicated. There are several eclectic tables and chairs scattered throughout for raucous groups as well as bench space for the solo diner. The feel inside the cosy restaurant is welcoming with a whisper of old school awesomeness.
What do we recommend at Umami Ramen, you might ask? Let us introduce you to the Smokey Black Tonkotsu. It’s one of their best sellers and it tastes as good as it looks. They do rice bowls too—the chicken karaage is our fave. It’s crispy and tender and we can’t get enough. We’re not sure what’s in their secret dipping sauce, but we dipped and dipped until we could dip no more. Another crowd pleaser is their hand-made dumplings that are steamed to perfection with a side of zesty sauce.
Umami Ramen is also serving various vegan and vegetarian options for those who are so inclined, with the vegan option coming complete with a Lotus flower floating on top. Fancy right?!
We suggest visiting stat! This place won’t be a secret spot for much longer.
