Not only are you probably in a food-induced coma right now, but you’re probably hella broke as well, but that’s cool-cool-chameleon, because we’ve put together a list of things you can fill your holidays with that won’t cost a cent (thank gawd).
1. High Intensity Interval Training
I’ll admit this is a pretty brutal free activity to throw at you after Christmas, but it is free. Get ride of those Chrissie kilos by popping along to a high-intensity interval training session in the beautiful Flagstaff gardens (or maybe just take some Christmas leftovers and have a picnic under a tree.

2. New Year’s Eve Light Show
Mosey over to the corner of Collins and Bourke Street on New Year’s Eve to catch an absolutely free light show. Melbourne’s new iconic building will light up every half an hour on the hour, and if that doesn’t scream free fun, I don’t know what does.

3. Ladies Love Cool Jams
Ladies love cool *free* jams, which is why you’ll want to head over to the Loop Project Space & Bar on Friday night for some killer tunes and a free boogie. Leave those Christmas weight woes behind as you boogie on late into the night. Head here for more info.

4. Fed Square Live
Federation Square isn’t just known for being ‘one of the ugliest buildings ever designed and built in the world’ (a big shout out to Britain’s The Daily Telegraph for that blazer of a title) but it’s also famous locally for its summer events schedule, in particular–Fed Square Live. On December 29, our fugly (famously ugly) Fed Square will play host to two hours of live music on Thursdays from 5:30pm, and it’ll cost you absolutely nothing. Head here for more details.

5. New Year’s Eve Melbourne
Pop over to Kings Domain this New Year’s Eve between 9pm-1am to see Melbourne throw an absolute pearler of a New Year’s fireworks show. There’ll be a 9pm show for the kiddies and adults who have to work the next day, and a midnight show for all the hard-core mad-dawgs who made it to midnight. There’s always truckloads of people, so get in quick to get a good spot.

6. New Year’s Eve At Fed Square
Head to Federation Square on New Year’s Eve for a powerhouse of live music and entertainment in a culturally delicious setting. There’ll be all genres of music imaginable, plus it’s free and also a really great place to nab a spot for the fireworks. #winner

7. New Year’s Eve Haus Party
The Germans sure know how to party, so why not head over to Munich Brauhaus on New Year’s Eve (if all the good spots at Fed Square are taken) and drink in the new year with several steins that people have obviously shouted you because remember you have nunna dat monay. 8. Summer Night Market
Praise Yeezy, hallelujah, it’s back! The Summer Night Market is rolling in for yet another season at the Queen Victoria Market. Every Wednesday evening, from 5–10pm, sink your teeth into Melbourne’s largest array of global street food, free live tunes, jaw-dropping entertainers, specialty and vintage shopping and a delicious international atmosphere like no other.
