Food, Fillies and Fun | Celebrate Australia Day In Style

There are pin-points in every Melburnian’s calendar that mark hysteria levels of excitement and planning—the opening of a new Messina, the prospect of a Green With Envy warehouse sale, any new rooftop bar, Australia Day and spring racing. Combine those last two gems, and what do you get? Australia Day Races. It's like the event gods magic-ed up the perfect concoction to create a day of classy celebrations. (Whatever your view on the slightly contentious date, we’ll always make the most of a day off.)

Caulfield Racecourse will play host to the Australia Day Races. If you’re into horse racing but not so much the intense glitz and glamour and weeks of preparation that typically goes with Spring Racing—Summer Racing is the perfect place to dip your big toe.

Serving up a mix of sport, entertainment and finger lickin’ food, they’ve ticked all of the most important boxes.

On the sports front, there will be some of the country's best four-legged athletes, as well as a giant screen showing all the tennis action from the Australian Open (no need to choose!) located in a prime position—it won’t be hard for you to catch a bit of both sporting spectacles.

Entertainment is well and truly sorted, with top-notch live DJs spinning all your Aussie favourites from the Crown Lager Live Stage—the perfect backdrop to either settle in on the grass or get your dancing groove on.

When it comes to food and bevvies, there are oodles of finger lickin’ options. Our top picks? It’d be rude to not celebrate Australia day with a barbecue, so you’ll be able to grab plenty of smokey goodness straight from the grill. When it comes to the drinks side of things, we recommend you head straight to the Pimm's Garden Party where you’ll find insta-worthy deck chairs, cocktails galore and lawn games—all the makings of the very best garden party!

If you’re keen to head along but have a bambino or two in tow, fear not. There are plenty of kid-friendly activities, think face painting, jumping castles and pony rides, so you’ll still be able to kick back and enjoy the ultimate Australia Day.
