If you're a fashion fan and always have one eye on the red carpet, I'm guessing yesterday was your idea of heaven. Women swathed in tulle, men in suave suits, and diamonds as far as the eye could see.
That's right, the 86th Academy Awards were held yesterday, which some people consider the film industry's night of nights, while other people (smarter folk, I like to say) know it's the red carpet to end all red carpets, the ultimate catwalk, the Superbowl of the fashion world.
With a TV audience in the hundreds of millions, all eyes were on the red carpet at the Dolby Theatre and boy, there were some crackers!
So who hit all the right notes? Read on for who we thought was best dressed at the Oscars. Tell us, who did we miss? Who was your fave?

Cate Blanchett in Armani Prive
Presenting the Queen of the Oscars red carpet, Cate Blanchett! Cate can do no wrong on a normal day, so we're not in the least bit surprised that she was best dressed at the Oscars. Her bejewelled nude Armani Prive gown was incredible to say the least – it had a level of detail that not many can pull off. Hollywood hair and diamond drop earrings finished the piece. Now all hail the Queen!
Amy Adams in Gucci
The Best Actress nominee kept it sleek and simple in royal blue Gucci and it totally paid off. The minimal lines of the dress paired with stunning Tiffany & Co. jewels ensured Adams stood out amongst the sequins, whilst the blue was the perfect colour for her porcelain skin. A stellar start to the Oscars best dressed list.
The red carpet isn't all about the ladies you know! Bradley Cooper wore a perfectly tailored classic black suit, white shirt and bow tie, showing the world how a real man should dress for the Academy Awards red carpet. Bonus points for bringing his mama as his date – cute!
Matthew McConaughey and Camila Alves-McConaughey
While the white suit jacket isn't for everyone, it certainly was the perfect choice for Mr "Alright, Alright, Alriiight" – aka Matthew McConaughey. The suit was complemented by his Southern charm while his babe of a wife, Camila, wore a unique yet stunning long-sleeved, semi-caped gown. With its pale pink colouring, we loved that the dress was a little left of field – not your typical red carpet silhouette!
Charlize Theron in Dior
As an ambassador for Christian Dior, Charlize Theron – the goddess that she is – donned a sexy black dress with deep v-neck, invisible strap and fishtail train. Sounds like quite the combo, right? Thanks to minimal hair and makeup, plus the choice to focus on one piece of WOW jewellery (that necklace!), Theron pulled it all off with class. Love the black polish too.
Giuliana Rancic in Paolo Sebastian
It's always nice when overseas celebs champion Aussie designers, don't you think? Giuliana Rancic, host of E! News in the States, is one such celeb, wearing a fairy tale gown by Paolo Sebastian to this year's Academy Awards. The frock featured a crystal-embellished bodice and flowing skirt, making Giuliana seem positively princess-like. She didn't go too girly though – by rocking a smoky eye and slicked back hair, Giulina kept the look from being too frou-frou.
Jared Leto in Saint Laurent
Yep, it's a controversial call but we think Jared Leto, in his Saint Laurent suit and red bow tie, was one of the Oscars best dressed for 2014. It's a totally rock star look but considering Jared actually fronts a rock band (he's the lead singer of rock band Thirty Seconds To Mars), we think he's the perfect candidate to wear something from the suit connoisseurs. Bravo Jared for trying something different – it's what farshun is all about really.
Jennifer Lawrence in Dior
When she's not busy falling over at the Oscars (Will this be an annual thing? We hope so), my BFF J.Law is busy wowing the crowds in an array of Dior dresses. Yesterday she strutted, and then stacked, in a tangerine Dior column gown featuring a peplum at the waist, set off with a single strand diamond necklace. A stronger brow and a little more eye makeup wouldn't have gown astray, however Lawrence was still one of the best dressed on the Oscars red carpet – that colour was mesmerising!
Julia Roberts in Givenchy
You know what they say – third time's the charm! After two not-so-ideal frocks, one at the Golden Globes and the other at the SAG Awards, Julia Roberts hit the right note on the Academy Awards red carpet by donning a black lace Givenchy dress with peplum detail. Diamond drop earrings and her famous smile were the only accessories the Best Supporting Actress nominee needed – the result was demure red carpet perfection.
Let's make one thing clear – the older Leo gets, the more devilishly handsome he becomes. Am I right? Yup, I'm right. Another example of excellent red carpet attire for the fellas, Leo wore a classic black and white suit, albeit with a navy lapel, and finished off the outfit with a white handkerchief in the pocket. Oh Leo, you dapper man, you.
Lupita Nyong'o in Prada
Someone was clearly having their 'belle of the ball' moment last night! Awards show darling Lupita Nyong'o won over the fashion pack in ice-blue custom Prada (the shade reminded Lupita of her home in Nairobi), a thin blue diamond headband, and a dazzling smile. Lupita has worn some amazing jewel-tone colours over the awards season, so it was nice to see her wear something a touch softer…but equally as amazing! With her stellar record, it's no wonder Lupita has made the Academy Awards best dressed list.
Margot Robbie in Saint Laurent
Margot Robbie…is that you?! Star of The Wolf of Wall Street, Robbie went from being a blonde bombshell at the Golden Globes to a glam goth at the Oscars…and we totally dig it! Margot has gone for a look that's equal parts old Hollywood (she looks like Ava Gardner, no?) and vampy seductress by wearing a black strapless Saint Laurent gown with bow detail at the back. Top marks Miss Robbie on your first Oscars outing!
Olivia Wilde in Valentino and Jason Sudeikis in Prada
And the 'Cutest Couple at the Oscars' award goes tooooo…Olivia Wilde and Jason Sudeikis! Valentino-clad Wilde is the epitome of glowing mama-to-be but pregnant or not, this would have to be our second pick for best dressed at the Oscars for 2014 (next to Queen Cate, of course!). Sudeikis look pretty damn fine himself, in a navy Prada suit jacket and black bow tie…very Cary Grant-esque!
Penelope Cruz in Giambattista Valli
Ms. Cruz has a penchant for wearing pink to the Academy Awards but really, when she looks this good in it, why wear something else? For the 86th Academy Awards, Penelope went for pale pink Giambattista Valli accessorised with a black bow at the waist, dangly diamond earrings, and a Grace Kelly bun. The overall look was very regal indeed.
Sandra Bullock in Alexander McQueen
Rounding out the best dressed list for the 2014 Oscars is Sandra Bullock in sapphire Alexander McQueen. A Best Actress nominee for Gravity, Bullock really hit her stride last night in the glamorous McQueen gown worn with an equally glamorous diamond bracelet and glossy, over-the-shoulder waves. If you looked up 'Oscars best dressed' in the dictionary, this photo of Sandra would most likely be there.
