Picking your favourite dumpling is a bit like choosing between your children. An impossible decision, you love them all equally blah blah blah… but in your heart of hearts you know which one you’re taking to a desert island. It’s the one who doesn’t draw mud giraffes on the new wallpaper.
For us, the dumpling Golden Child is undoubtedly the humble Pierogi: a boiled, unleavened masterpiece, usually stuffed with mashed potatoes, quark cheese, onions and meat. Scientists discovered in 2015 that it’s physically impossible to eat only one. True story.
This weekend the crew at Pierogi Pierogi (they really like Pierogi) are throwing a FREE Pierogi party at Gasometer in Collingwood to celebrate International Workers Day. They promise ‘Polish dumplings, Polish Vodka, Polish everything’, which might be the greatest festival tagline of all time. Entry is free and there’ll be food galore, plus live music courtesy of Gypsy Jazz band Hello Tut Tut. We don’t know what Gypsy Jazz is exactly, but we’re pretty excited to find out.
Where: The Gasometer Hotel, 484 Smith St Collingwood
When: 5pm ‘til late
