Picking your favourite dumpling is a bit like choosing between your children. An impossible decision, you love them all equally blah blah blah… but in your heart of hearts you know which one you’re taking to a desert island. It’s the one who doesn’t draw mud giraffes on the new wallpaper.
For us, the dumpling Golden Child is undoubtedly the humble Pierogi: a boiled, unleavened masterpiece, usually stuffed with mashed potatoes, quark cheese, onions and meat. Scientists discovered in 2015 that it’s physically impossible to eat only one. True story.
Well the crew at Pierogi Pierogi (they really like Pierogi) are back, and they’re throwing a HUGE Pierogi party at Gasometer in Collingwood to celebrate International Workers Day. They promise ‘Polish dumplings, Polish Vodka, Polish everything’, which might be the greatest festival tagline of all time. Entry is free and there’ll be food galore, plus live music courtesy of DJ Baba Noir (Turkish Disco/Funk) and French Gypsy punks, Cyclo Timik.
Now if we only knew how to pronounce Pierogi...
