Getting to and from work is an absolute chore at the best of times, but you’ll be glad to know while you’re staring blankly out the train window listening to Atlanta Monster of a morning there’s work going on to produce Melbourne’s newest fleet of trains. And they’re all purpose built here in Melbourne.
The High Capacity Metro Trains project has just finalised the new design for the fleet of 65 new Melbourne trains.
These trains will be running on the Pakenham/Cranbourne lines once they’re up and running and will head all the way to Sunbury once the Metro Tunnel is open for business. They’ll initially consist of 7 carriages and will be able to hold almost 1,400 passengers with provision to increase their size to 10 carriages in future which could hold up to 1,970 people.
You can have a look around one for yourself next month where they’ll set it up at Birrarung Marr for 8 days.
What: Walk, stand, look around Melbourne’s new generation of train
When: Friday 9 February – Saturday 17 February
Where: Birrarung Marr, lower terrace along Yarra River
