UPDATE: Please note the Inflatable Regatta is now on February 24.
Ah yes, it’s the most wonderful time of the year, a time for celebration, a time for reflection. It’s time to get in an inflatable boat and float on down the Yarra in the annual Inflatable Regatta.
After kicking off with 11 people from the Abbotsford Convent car park in 2008, the Inflatable Regatta in 2018 will be selling more than 2,500 tickets for the event, have more than 130 volunteers on hand, and are also looking at holding their first event outside of Melbourne on the Barwon River in March.
“The Yarra is a place so many people drive around, run around, cycle around… but there’s not many opportunities to get on the river and so close as in an inflatable boat” says co-founder of the Inflatable Regatta Courtney Carthy. And it’s true, most people are terrified of what lurks beneath the ‘river that runs upside down’, but this event gives us the chance to embrace such an important piece of the Melbourne puzzle.
As you travel down the river from Richmond to Hawthorn you’ll discover an eclectic bunch of acts on the banks of the river, so be sure to keep your eyes peeled.
Tickets are now on sale for the 2018 event:
- $60 for a single boat (plus booking fee)
- $110 for a two-person boat (plus booking fee)
- $10 extra if you want to take your boat home to keep
The team are also looking for more acts to play to the crowd, if you’re interested in performing a 1-hour acoustic set, get in touch with the team via [email protected].
