It's official. Victoria's most luxe hotel is opening a sister venue in the CBD. Yep, we're talking about the multi-award-winning Jackalope.
If you haven't heard of this place, it's picked up just about every hotel award going around. Hotel of the Year, New Hotel of the Year, Regional Hotel of the Year, Gourmet Traveller Hotel Awards 2017—you name it. It's down on the Mornington Peninsula, set amongst rolling hills, and packing 46 beautifully designed luxury dens. And the Flinders Lane project is looking equally fancy.
Owner and founder, Louis Li, envisions a 32-suite designer hotel in Melbourne's historic Maria George building, which was built in 1911. The twist? A new 10-storey frosted glass box, with a rooftop Cloud Bar wrapped in a electropolished stainless steel wire, mimicking the shape of a cumulus cloud. Told you this place was ambitious...
While the CBD Hotel will share the Peninsula’s mantra of art, design, dining and storytelling, Flinders Lane will also boast 16 storeys of weather-themed features, a bittersweet homage to Melbourne’s temperamental five seasons in one day.
Visitors can expect innovative art installations, two world-class restaurants and the signature seven-metre Jackalope statue (a portmanteau of a jackrabbit and antelope). The same one that already welcomes Mornington visitors.
The expected opening date at the moment is 2020, so watch this space.
