Hands up who lives near Burnley? You lucky devils. The news just dropped: there’s a new brewery and pub opening on Bridge Rd in December.
It’s called Burnley Brewing, a collaboration between brewers Neil Mills and Phil Gijsbers (Saint James Cafe, Hard Pressed Coffee, Pedro Espresso and a bunch more) and the owner of Romulus and Remus, Renton Carlyle-Taylor (Milton Wines, Toorak Cellars and The Alps). Phew, that’s some boozy fine dining pedigree right there.
Here’s the plan. Romulus & Remus on Bridge Rd will re-open as the brand new ‘brew pub’. All the beers will be brewed on-site, with a cascading range across ten rotating taps. Everything from Aussie summer ales to fruity sours and US west coast hop bombs.
Each of the beers will be tapped and ready to drink, straight from the Brite tanks, within a couple of days of the brew’s completion. Doesn’t get much fresher than that.
There’ll also be a 150-seater gastro pub, serving up some old Romulus & Remus classics: think pulled pork and beef lasagna, or chorizo and pea crispy gnocchi. Whack on an American-style bar snack menu, full of sticky ribs and other nibbles, and you’ve got the makings of something really special. There’s a bonus too: dedicated vegan-friendly fare.
When: The doors are set to open in December.
Where: 648 Bridge Rd, Burnley
