A good cause or two, a slice of cheese, a dance party, some more cheese and various pop ups. Don’t sit around this weekend; if you’re looking for things to do in Melbourne don’t miss out on some super foodie events or fun-filled festivals. Did we mention there’s cheese? 

Here’s what’s on in Melbourne, Listers. Save some stomach space!

Thursday 12th

The saints at Saint Crispin—are auctioning off a charity feast to the highest bidder, supporting Barman from the Black Pearl, Will Sleeman, in his attempt to raise an overall $5,000 as part of the World’s Greatest Shave for the Leukaemia Foundation. So what’s worth bidding for? How about Joe Grbac visiting you in your own home, and cooking up a foodie’s fantastic fantasy five-course feast for you and five lucky friends! Don’t forget the matching cocktails served up by Alan Mulvihill from Saint Crispin and Will Sleeman himself. Calm your farm, there’s plenty of time to bid! Truffle tasters get ready, Truffle Melbourne is hosting a regional long lunch at Shannon Bennett’s Piggery Café today! Bonkers for Bao? We sure are! Which is why you’ll find us at Ms Collins this Friday for Bao Down Friday! Their latest International street food menu, created by Jacques Reymond, Paul Wilson, Daniel Wilson and Riccardo Momesso offers some delightfully inspired flavours! Previous soft shell crab baos have been a total hit, and this week they’re trying out a wagyu brisket with picked cabbage. Excuse us for drooling. Saturday 14th

Seeing Eye Dogs aren’t just cute (but my goodness, they ARE adorable), they’re also a really important part of life for many people with vision impairment. Today is the Seeing Eye Dogs Australia open day in Kensington. Learn about the facilities, breeding and training programs that cost upwards of $35,000 to train each Seeing Eye Dog. With limited government funding, SEDA needs your help. Pop down and learn something new and important—behind the cute factor. There will also be plenty of family fun to be had, in the form of raffles, a scrumptious BBQ, and even some on site pet advice (just please leave your own pup at home)!

If you treasure a charming visit to a cellar door, then you’ll be pretty excited to hear of the Flemington Grazing Train and Cellar Door! Relax on the front lawns and in the rose gardens as you peruse a selection of boutique wineries, breweries and producers from around Victoria. We’re talking tastings, demonstrations, and more. A foodie festival called Flavours? Take deep breaths. Flavours in Prahran’s Grattan Gardens is a multicultural foodie extravaganza, presented by the City of Stonnington and supported by Prahran Market. Part of the Melbourne Food and Wine Festival, the event brings together live music, dance and Melbourne’s best restaurants and food trucks in an all-day celebration of this city’s global culture. 

There will be a live kitchen where you can learn all the tips and tricks from the pros: Ali Shahverdi from 40 Theives & Co and Kyle Doody from Mr Miyagi will be showcasing their culinary skills, La Svolta’s chefs take you on a pizza-making journey, and Alice in Frames from Masterchef will be sharing some super foodie shopping secrets! You’ll no longer only know how to cook steak and salad, Listers. There will also be over 30 stalls serving up street food from around the world, as well as opportunities to get involved with hip-hop and West African dance workshops. RSVP to the event via Facebook and get in early on the day—the classes are first in, best dressed!

Sunday 15th

Used to having brekkie on the go? Well do it for a good cause today, with Melbourne Food and Wine Festival’s Breakfast Around the Tan walk, coordinated by Diabetes Australia. Stroll around the beautiful Botanic Gardens with five pit stops filled with nutritious (not to mention darn yummy) breakfast fuel. There will be yoga and lifestyle sessions, and fun for the whole family. 5 percent of every ticket price will go towards Diabetes Australia. So tie up those sneaks and skip breakfast, Listers!

Grown & Gathered organic farmers, Matt and Lentil Purbick, are hosting a workshop this Sunday that has our mouths seriously watering. Pickling Summer is a pickling and preserving workshop, which will teach participants how Peter Piper preserved his summer harvest! Preserve, pickle and ferment your own produce (from the farm), with a focus on low sugar content and local ingredients. Pick up you own pickle and preserve to take home too!

If you’re looking for something cheesy to do this weekend, then look no further than Fromage A Trois Cheese and Cider Festival. Set to takeover Werribee Park Mansion, this brie-lliant festival is definitely spinning out wheels. Watch the process of stretching mozzarella. Sip on some cider. Feast on food trucks, and most importantly, fill up with fromage. We’ll see you there, cheese fiends!

Not enough cheesiness? Never fear, us foodies are here! The Botanical is hosting a wonderful event this Sunday, Wine and Cheese of the Alps! Taste swilling samples from the Rhone, Piedmont and Swiss Alps regions, and learn a thing or four about wine and cheese production.

Hit the streets of Elsternwick this Sunday and join in the celebrations of the In One Voice festival celebrating Jewish life in Melbourne. There will be family friendly fun, live music, dance performances, community stalls, activities and carnival rides. Get excited for treats from Aviva and Co, Daneli’s Deli and Traffik! Particpate in a sports skills workshops, or just kick back and absorb the atmosphere.

Held as part of the Melbourne Food and Wine Festival, feast on a picnic hamper filled with scrumptious seasonal treats and homemade lemonade. Fill up with some wine, or sit back and listen to the live tunes. This grass-roots garden party will be an afternoon of dining, indulging and just plainly put, relaxing!
