Best Cafes In Auckland For People Who Don't Like Coffee

We get it, drinking coffee is about more than the drink itself, it’s about the ‘experience’; exploring new places, finding a cool new café that serves a great (insert your preference here) and catching up with friends as caffeine flows through your veins.

But what if you don’t drink coffee?

Thankfully, non-coffee drinkers can rejoice because there is an ever growing range of Auckland cafes putting as much emphasis into the rest of their drink offering, as they are with their coffee – and yes, you can still get coffee at each of these venues.

From freakshakes to deconstructed deliciousness, here is our roundup of the best cafes in Auckland for people who don’t drink coffee!

Cornwall Park Cafe

Located in lush grounds and boasting some of the most beautiful views to soak in while enjoying brekkie or brunch, is Cornwall Park Cafe. While it’s true they do amazing coffee, there’s a special treat for those who prefer their drinks caffeine free. Served on a silver platter, it features a glass with ice, a small milk-filled bottle, a tub of vanilla ice cream along with a pot of chocolate sauce, Cadbury flakes and chocolate sprinkles. Yep, this is deconstructed iced-chocolate at its finest...masterpiece, even! Have fun building your own delicious drink and watch as your coffee clan turn green with envy!

Dear Jervois

Herne Bay

Herne Bay’s Dear Jervois cafe is an Instagram paradise. With rustic interiors complete with black and white tiled floors, draping fairy lights, mismatched wooden chairs and an abundance of potted plants and incredible coffee, it really is a city dweller’s haven. Not only do they attract crowds from far and wide due to their edible flower-adorned food and selection of caffeine-infused drinks, they also happen to serve up a slurp-worthy range of organic superfood smoothies. Have trouble choosing from the likes of raspberry and beetroot, superfood peanut butter blueberry or cacao maca smoothie, just to name a few!

Takapuna Beach Cafe

Just above the water's edge and holding the unofficial title of ‘great coffee with even better views’ is Takapuna Beach Cafe. If you manage to bag yourself a seat in this busy and bustling eatery, sun hats off to you!  Whether you’re thinking of ordering in the mascarpone-topped pancakes or your go-to flat white with one sugar—STOP!—we have something better and it doesn’t involve coffee! Going by the name ‘gelato smoothies’, these bad boys aren’t for the faint hearted. Served up with a scoop of gelato and topped with milk, your choice isn’t going to be easy. With options such as vanilla bean, amarena cherry and yoghurt, double chocolate and salted caramel there’s something for every taste!

Sip Kitchen

Another potted plant paradise comes in the form of Rosedale’s Sip Kitchen. Complete with dangling fairy lights and pretty-as-a-picture decor, there’s also a bountiful and delicious cabinet selection. Here, non coffee drinkers can enjoy some epic slow pressed juices. With the option to grab a bottle on the run or stay and get a freshly juiced drink instead, either way, we simply can’t get enough of their ‘greenie in a bottle’!

The Store

Chances are, if you’ve had a busy day trawling the shops and stores of Queen St and beyond, you’re gonna need a refuel. Tucked away in the hub of Britomart and serving up all of the scrummy feeds and beverages you could possibly want and need, is The Store. Here you’ll find an array of house-made sodas— whether citrus and cardamom tickles your fancy or strawberry and thyme or cucumber and mint, is more your thing, you won’t be disappointed with your choice!

Little Bird

Various Locations

If you consider yourself a bit of a health nut and love all things organic and good for you, then chances are Little Bird is your local go-to. Here, along with their range of cold pressed juices, you’ll find some delicious iced teas to really hit the spot. You’ll find jasmine green blackcurrant and chia tea to quench that thirst and release that stress. Or, opt for the hibiscus and rosehip iced tea for a vitamin C and A boost your immune system will thank you for. If you need something a little different, try the almond milk, magic mushroom and cacao milk or the  golden spice milk with bee pollen.

As we simply can’t get enough of the whole deconstructed trend, we thought we’d bring you another variety. This time it is in the form of one of our most beloved feel good drinks—hot chocolate. At Parnell’s Rosie, you can choose from  classic valrhona or salted caramel, and you’ll have them served up with a glass of hot, steaming milk and a jug of thick hot chocolate to pour in. There’s also miniature brownie pieces to enjoy too!

Satya Spice And Chai Shop

Hidden down a narrow alleyway off Sandringham Road is Satya Spice And Chai Shop. This magical little space has stools make from tree trunks and old wooden spools as tables, with pops of sprawling plants and fairy lights. While there are a range of craft beers and cocktails, we’re all about the comforting chai drinks. Enjoy the Masala Chai, an aromatic blend of spices including cardamom, cinnamon,  black pepper and cloves for a truly comforting drink without the caffeine.

Cereal Killa

Mt Eden

Embrace the freakshake frenzy that has hit Auckland with a bang and head along to Mt Eden’s Cereal Killa. With a multitude of shakes on offer, you can rest assured that your shake is better than their coffee. Taking the simple milkshake to a whole new level, indulge in the chocolate Nutella freakshake, or opt for the strawberry diva or the caramel waffle. Trust us, you’ll be coming back again and again.
