In The Name Of Love | 6 Extreme Date Ideas To Try

Beach picnics. Candle-lit dinners. Bike riding. We’ve all been there, done that. And we’ve only got one word to say to dates like that: yawn.

Nothing, and we mean NOTHING, screams romance more than a bit of axe throwing, or heart-racing white water rafting. It's time to change up your dating scene with activities that are sure to make your heart pound harder than your very first kiss.

Take your dating to the next level, here are six extreme dates to try in Auckland.

Rock Climbing

Panmure and Glen Eden

It’s time to take your dating repertoire to new heights. Literally. Guys, we’re talking about rock climbing at Extreme Edge. And if you’re a total newbie—even better, everyone needs a laugh. The Panmure location is the largest indoor climbing centre in New Zealand with more than 200 routes to climb for you to defy gravity (and impress your date).

High Ropes

Auckland Airport

Test your love with some serious sky challenges. Emphasis on the serious. Rocket Ropes is the aerial adventure you’ll want to hit up for a touch of romantic adrenaline. That means a giant swing, 120m-long flying fox and five-story high leap! This place is pretty much your one-way ticket to winning the ‘Date of the Year’ award. You’re welcome.

Real-Life Escape Game

Auckland City

Just you and bae. Locked in a dark room. With no way to get out. That might actually be a dream come true for some of you (no judgement there). If you have the guts, Escape Masters is the ultimate extreme date and adventure mission. Your job? Solve puzzles and break the codes to escape with your date before the timer runs out. Let’s be honest, so many things could go wrong (or right) with this one. Either way, it’ll be a major hit.

Axe Throwing

Yep, that’s exactly what every date needs. Two humans armed with an axe. The team at Action Matakana is giving you the thrill of throwing hatchets at targets. The experts will show you the ropes (or should we say axes?) to help you master the art of the bullseye, which means guaranteed bragging rights. Forever.

White Water Rafting

Hit up Vector Wero Whitewater Park for an extreme aqua adventure. Try your hand at kayaking or stand-up paddle boarding (bailing is inevitable). As for white water rafting, there are three heart-racing courses to choose from. If you really want to impress your date, take on the pump waterfall course that features the world’s highest man-made waterfall. Just try not to scream into your lover’s ear as you brave the 4.5m drop.

Quad Biking

South Head

Ride a quad bike into the sunset along Muriwai Beach. 4 Track Adventures will get your heart racing with their quad bike adventures. We’re particularly fond of their twilight quad safari that covers up to 35km of forest tracks before heading along Muriwai Beach If you’ve got yourself a keeper, your love will think you’re a babe—helmet hair and all.
