Saddling between two other epic eating times, AKA breakfast and dinner, little ol’ lunch can sometimes be forgotten or skipped. Oh the tragedy!
Thankfully there’s weekends, when shiz slows right down and we try to cram as many meals into a day as possible. Because Saturday and Sunday were actually invented for eating, duh!
And on that note, we’re introducing you to four awesome Sunshine Coast restaurants and cafes to lunch at this weekend. Bon appetit!
Despite being around for a few years, we’d totally forgive you if you haven’t munched on the deliciously delish fare being served up at Elliotts Bistro. In fact, we kind of feel sorry you. This husband and wife team serve up brekkie and dinner (Thursday through to Sunday) but it’s their lunch menu that has us blushing. Our picks of the bunch? Start with the ciabatta with hummus, feta and dukkah, and then order the prawn, Hervey Bay scallop and mussel linguine with chilli and gremolata. You’ll understand as soon as you taste it.
Hand Of Fatima
For a teeny tiny kitchen, Hand Of Fatima is BIG on flavours. Tucked on the outside of the village square at Peregian Beach, if you’ve only ever sipped on coffee from here, now’s the time to change that! With a succinct and ever-changing lunch menu featuring only four dishes, depending on the month you’ll be choosing between a spiced lamb and pine nut pie with green tahini yoghurt and tomato ezme, or a Middle Eastern spiced tuna fricassee salad. Light, fresh, and it’s only a short stroll to Le Bon Delice for daytime dessert.
Hastings Street can get a bit, okay A LOT, wild when it’s holiday season, so do as the locals to and beeline to the river for waterside dining and the ability to find a park (whoop!). Sitting on a corner along Gympie Terrace, Sirocco is renowned for being one of the best restaurants in Noosa and has indoor seating as well as a deck complete with river views. Its Middle Eastern/North African-inspired menu makes choosing ridiculously hard, so take the easy option and go for the Tasting Plate—smokey eggplant and goat cheese croquette, piri piri chicken wings, and Hervey Bay half shell seared scallops. We’d also get your peer pressure on, and gently suggest your dining buddy order one of the gourmet pizzas, just so you can have a slice, but shhh.
Hanging around Maroochydore or just up for a weekend drive? The Nines serves up some of the most mouth-watering burgers on the Sunshine Coast and they’re totally worth planning your day around. Just ask anyone who’s eaten one. The beauty of this casual eatery though, is that if someone in your possie is still in the brekkie zone, these guys also do all-day breakfast. So, you can knock back your overloaded bun, and they can tackle the waffles with salted caramel. Oh lawd!
