Sometimes we just need to retreat from the world, peel away from the daily grind and recover a bit of our inner-zen.

While cocktails by the pool and a Dan Brown novel might sound like an appealing solution, a belly full of hotel food and weeks slothing by the pool isn’t exactly life-enhancing. Bringing new meaning to the idea of a vay-cay, yoga retreats are a wholesome alternative that’ll leave you feeling like a million bucks.

Here are a few of the amazing yoga retreats you need to book in 2017.

Tamara Yoga | Margaret River | March 16-19

A three day retreat, this immersive experience in Margaret River hosted by Tamara Yoga aims to remove all distractions to help deepen your yoga practice and experience a shift towards greater wellbeing. Surrounded by beaches and Karri forests, the yoga space looks onto a nature reserve and will be the setting for morning meditation, breathing practices and a dynamic yoga session morning and evening.

Mandala | Gnaraloo | April 15-19

If you’re keen to step out of your comfort zone this is the retreat you’ve been looking for. The team at Mandala will put you in contact with your retreat buddies so you can carpool to Gnaraloo together—it’s a 12 hour drive north of Perth so you’ll want to share the load—then you’ll set up your own tent or swag on the red dirt and spend four nights under the stars. Over the course of the retreat you’ll practice yoga on top of sea cliffs, on sand and dirt and take in some of the most epic sunsets you’ll ever see.

Boheme Luxe Retreat | Northern NSW | April 21-23

You don’t always need to jump on a plane to get the feeling you’ve been whisked a zillion miles from home. Set in the blissfully lush northern NSW district with views to Mount Warning and hosted by one of the Gold Coast’s most revered wellness studios, Boheme + Body, this luxe two-night retreat is overflowing with sessions to find your Zen. Come for the yoga, meditation, massage, guided journaling, organic body treatments, rainforest walks, life coaching, lovingly prepared vegetarian meals, and secluded eco-retreat accommodation complete with day spa and a magnesium-enriched swimming pool. Because darling, you’re worth it.

Margaret River Yoga School | Mauritius | May 17-27

Margaret River Yoga School offers an immersive yoga retreat for all levels and the opportunity to explore the island of Mauritius via tours through its national parks, river gorges, mosques and an included Catamaran trip in paradise.

This all expenses included retreat hosted by Yoga One takes the sweat out of booking a retreat. Spend five days hanging out on a waterfront resort, immerse yourself in twice daily yoga, meditation and three pampering treatments. With free access to SUP boards, a gym and a Catamaran tour all included, this value-for-money retreat will have you feeling relaxed about your budget too.

Yoga West | Bali | June 9-11

Including eight nights at the Puri Lumbung cottages in Munduk, Yoga West offers cooking classes, massages and treks through rice fields, coffee plantations, waterfalls and local villages between a morning and evening yoga practice. Hosted by Iyengar teacher Shane Moody who has 28 years’ experience teaching yoga under his belt—you’re most definitely in good hands.

Yogaworx | Sri Lanka | July 15-22

For the adventurers among as that need a bit more stimulation, Wendy and Mal from Yogaworx have got you covered. Offering seven night’s accommodation at Apa Villas in Thalpe, they’ve planned surf and SUP lessons, cycle tours, cooking demonstrations, massages and two yoga classes a day—plus a guided tour of the fort at Galle and a working tea plantation—what more could you want in life?

Horizon Yoga | Spain | September 2-11

What better way to clear the head than hike for 10 days, stopping along the way for a yoga practice to the backdrop of the Spanish countryside? Offering a 150km pilgrimage trail called ‘Camino del Norte’, Horizon Yoga begins their walk at the French Spanish boarder, where you’ll experience a thermal detox at the Bay of Biscay along the way, marvel at the art and architecture of the Guggenheim in Bilbao and walk off your woes surrounded by rolling hills and coastal villages.

Yoga Alchemy | India | September 5-12

Known as God’s Country, Kerala is a tropical location in the south of India that will be the setting for a six day retreat, hosted by Amanda of Yoga Alchemy. With daily yoga practices accompanied by healing music, mantra, pranayama, meditation and an Ayurveda consult upon arrival, you’ll be feeling brand-spanking-new. What better place to practice for sunrise and sunset than the home of yoga itself!

Luxury SUP Yoga Retreat | Noosa | October 6-8

We’re big fans of Kat Harding. Not only is she Australia’s first qualified SUP Yoga instructor but we can pretty much claim she’s “ours” considering she chooses to call the Sunshine Coast home. Hosting retreats all over the world—think: France, Mexico, New Zealand—we’re most excited about what’s happening in our own backyard come this October. The Luxury SUP Yoga Retreat will be held in Noosa over a weekend, and involves plenty of yoga, SUPing, and of course SUP yoga, as well as an intro workshop into meditation. Staying at the luxurious Peppers Resort & Villas above Hastings Street, you’ll be fueled by healthy meals, sunshine and good vibes. So, what are you waiting for?
