If there’s one thing we hate here at The Urban List, it’s not being able to make up our minds when we’re hungry AF, and if there’s another, it’s food envy. So, the invention of the brekky board has pretty much been the solution to all of our #firstworldproblems And we’re never not satisfied.
'What the shiz is a breakfast board?' we hear you ask. Well, sit down and strap in, peeps, because you’re about to get educated. A fancy new version of the classic ‘big breakfast’, breakfast boards are the perfect dish to order when you just don’t know what to choose. It typically features an assortment of brekky staples, all thrown —very strategically, of course—onto a lush board of some kind.
If you haven’t tried one of these newfangled creations yet, add it to your to-do list ASAP! Here are the Sunshine Coast’s best breakfast boards, for your feasting pleasure.
Hungry Feel
Buderim
We love it when our fave cafes keep it local, and luckily for our farming friends, this is what Hungry Feel is alllll about. Get amongst their local brekky board, featuring only the most delicious homegrown goodies—Kenilworth free range scrambled eggs, Bendele organic duck ‘ham’, SBC porter bread, Palmwoods mushrooms and Cedar Street haloumi. Now that’s what we’re talkin’ about!
Gainsbourg
Mooloolaba
Breakfast board for two? Don’t mind if we do! Gainsbourg’s share platter is making waves around town, and rightly so. We’re strong believers that good food should always be shared, plus food envy is just the worst! Get ready…this baby comes out with: two poached eggs, sunflower sourdough toast, tomato relish, quinoa hash, avocado, bacon, Danish feta, smoked ocean trout, fresh fruit AND two coffees. So in summary, not much really…LOL #jokes! Some would think it’s too good to be true, but it ain’t—it is real and it is damn tasty.
The Velo Project
Mooloolaba
The Velo Project spoil us with ah-mazing brunch options all year round, and we love ‘em for it! Boasting a menu packed with countless options, you’d be forgiven for taking 45 minutes to decide what to order. So, we’re going to make it easy for you and tell you to order Velo’s Bad Hunter brekky. You’ll be served roasted spiced pumpkin, avo, field mushrooms, roasted cherry tomatoes, grilled haloumi, beetroot yoghurt, toasted ciabatta and an egg of your choice, all perfectly plated.
Backstreet Cafe
Maroochydore
If you only try one thing on this list, make this one it! Stuff yourself silly with Backstreet Café’s Breakfast Madness. Piled up with two free range eggs, housemade baked beans, sausages, bacon, roasted tomatoes, relish, along with spinach, onion and leek hash browns—you’d be mad NOT to try it! If you’re not super hungry, never fear, you don’t have to miss out on all the brekky board fun…Backstreet Cafe’s smashed avo is also served on a gorg wooden board. So pretty!
Drift
Caloundra
With Drift pretty much in their backyard, Caloundra locals have it SO good! If you’re in need of a hearty breakfast feed, order their breakfast board and you’ll get toasted grain sourdough, shaved pastrami or smoked salmon, poached eggs, Mt Zero olives, Persian fetta, avo and heirloom tomatoes, all served on a platter of the wooden board variety. Drift delivers, every single time!
