There’s no denying pancakes are the shiz. Thick or thin, sweet or savoury, covered in fresh fruit and ice cream or laden with bacon (or let’s be real, probs both), any café who’s worth their weight in maple syrup knows that pancakes should be a staple dish on any brunch menu.
We’re spoilt for choice when it comes to getting our fix, but here’s seven cafes you might not have tried who are dishing up some of the best pancakes on the Sunshine Coast.
Skal Coffee’s recent revamp includes an epic new brunch menu, on which the pancakes are a stand-out! Their buckwheat and banana hotcakes look like art, so be prepared to take 1,000 pics for today’s Insta post before digging in.
A slight variation on pancakes, we’re going to count the crepes from Shotgun, because they’re so damn tasty. Choose from three flavours (if you can pick just one): maple syrup, fresh lemon and sugar, or mango and passionfruit. Made using chef Laura’s grandma’s recipe, you know these are gonna be good, cos they’re made with lurve. They’re also gluten-free, so nobody misses out!
We know you’re waiting for this one! The Nines have a rep for taking classic dishes next level—in the best way possible—and the Hot Stack from The Nines is no exception. They’re lavishly topped with ice cream, maple syrup and fresh berries, and we’re speaking from experience when we say that they certainly don’t skimp on the toppings.
When you pop in to Backstreet Cafe for your weekly pancake fix, it’s not going to get any easier to decide what you’ll have. Taking pride of place on the menu are not just one, but two equally delicious options. You can’t go wrong with the classic pancakes, served with berry compote and a generous scoop of vanilla ice cream. On the other hand, the Canadian pancakes have maple syrup and bacon—enough said.
During your pancake crawl across the coast, the banana-infused pancakes from Beau’s are not to be missed. Topped with macadamia nut ice cream and pecan candy, and drizzled with salted caramel sauce, you’ll be drooling over these babies before they even arrive.
Why change something that’s already freakin’ delicious? The team at Elliott’s Bistro in Alex Heads know how pancakes should be and deliver the goods every single time. Served with maple butter, berry compote and vanilla bean ice cream, order a side of bacon, just cos you can.
The Velo Project
Okay, you caught us! We love crepes just as much as regular pancakes. The Velo Project's huge range of buckwheat crepes must be seen to be believed. Our faves? It’s a toss-up between the fresh strawberries, passionfruit coulis, toasted almonds and Chantilly cream; and the butcher’s ham, rocket, Swiss cheese and a fried egg. There’s times in life for sweet and times for savoury, and these guys have you covered both ways.
Bit of a breakfast boss? Here's 17 breakfasts you need to try on the Sunshine Coast in 2017. Good luck!
