We May Have Found The Sunshine Coast's Best Dessert Breakfast

Okay, we admit it. It’s not often we’ll write an article solely on one dish. Because that would just be crazy.

But after we spilled the sprinkles about the very exciting fact that rainbow bagels are now a thing on the Sunshine Coast, and saw you go wild for it, we thought it wouldn’t be fair to just stop there.

Plus, if you’re going to eat a dessert for breakfast just once this year, you’d wanna make sure it’s worth it. Right? Right!

So, while we can hear you with your “How much can you say about ONE dish that’s worth reading?” comments—and in all honestly, probs not a lot—we’re going to run with it anyway, because food is our God, and when it’s this good, well, we just wanna praise it.

But let’s start at the beginning. Up until a couple of weeks ago, we weren’t really dessert people—except for chocolate gelato or chocolate ice cream or a chocolate bar, which is so normal it’s pretty much part of the food pyramid thingy.

Yep, it’s true! Until the moment we sat our tushes down at Decisions and sunk our spoons into this pile of freakin’ goodness, I repeat, we were not dessert people. But… we’ve changed, guys.

It’s not you, it’s us. And it’s all because there was this one dish on the #superjunk menu, and it sounded like the most irresistible cross between a breakfast and a dessert, that we just had to try it.

And then… it happened. We fell head over slides (because who wears heels on the Coast?) for the Nutella Brioche Toast. Sounds straightforward enough, yeah? A bit of brioche; toasted, with a dollop of Nutella, and bam—dish = complete. Oh, but how very wrong we were.

Firstly, if you try this dish, which we’re telling you that you NEED to, it will be almost impossible not to spontaneously create a chorus of “oooohs” and “aaaaaahs” as the waiter drops it off at the table. It’s just so dang pretty!

Secondly, and most importantly, it wasn’t just a bit of brioche, a dollop of Nutella—no siree. This baby came out on a black plate with a chunky slice of brioche topped with a thick layer of Nutella and a ball of peanut butter ice cream. But that’s not all, folks. It also had a chocolate-dipped waffle cone loaded with vanilla foam (oh the lightness!) and garnished with the prettiest edible flowers we ever did see. Basically, it was a piece of art. A piece of damn fine EDIBLE art. So we ate it. And OMG. We had no words. Just drool. Sounds kinda gross, but in the moment it was appropriate? Sort of?

Anyhoo, the reason we’re telling you all this, is because WE WERE NOT DESSERT people. Not even kinda dessert for breakfast people. And so, we are paying tribute to the Nutella Brioche Toast because we hand on belly believe if you’re going to try one dessert for breakfast in 2017, this has got to be it. Srsly!
