While everyone is worry-warting about what to do on New Year’s Eve it’s pretty easy to forget about your plans for New Year’s DAY.
Which, might we add, actually falls on a Sunday this time and is followed by a public holiday on the Monday, so basically double days off—win!
We’ve done the research for you on this one, here’s what’s happening this New Year’s Day on the Sunshine Coast. Giddy up!
1. HIT WOODFORD FOLK FESTIVAL
If you want some seriously good vibes, head to Woodford Folk Festival for their epic fire event. Whether you’re planning to hit the booze and dance your butt off or chill for the afternoon sipping guarana-infused fruit juice whilst listen to a sweet acoustic session, this fest has you sorted.
2. SPEND ALL DAY AT THE BEACH
Spending the majority of the first day of 2017 at the beach is never a bad idea. Our tip: choose somewhere like Peregian or Mooloolaba so you can park the car at the beginning of the day and easily walk from the beach to refreshments (like fruit smoothies, or fish and chips, or burgers, or gelato) to the beach, throughout the whole day.
3. GET ABOARD CATALINA NOOSA
This will be Catalina’s 2nd annual NYD party and last year’s was a smash hit. If spending your afternoon cruising up the beautiful Noosa River feasting on a five-course canape menu with a drink in hand sounds like your idea of a swell day, then do yourself a favour and grab your ticket stat! Word is they’re selling fast.
4. WATCH THE FIRST SUNRISE OF THE YEAR
Watching the sun rise any day of the year is pretty special but on the first day of the year it’s monumental. We won’t judge you if the only way you manage to see it is by staying up all night—either way, it will be one to remember.
5. RECOVERY SESH AT MOOSHKA
Head to Mooshka for chilled vibes, good food, and even a cocktail if you can stomach it… we’ll forgive you if it has to be a mocktail.
6. HIKE LIKE A BOSS
Partying, drinking, and hangovers tend to be the norm around around the festive season, but what if you spent this New Year’s Day doing something a little different. Like hiking up your favourite mountain, or one of those other trails you’ve been meaning to get to. You’ll feel great for it, promise!
7. THROW A BBQ
It’s a public holiday which means the vast majority of your friends aren’t working, so plan a big beach BBQ with all your mates and enjoy.
8. HIDE FROM THE WORLD AT THE CINEMA
Air conditioning. Popcorn. Air-conditioning. Dark room. Air-conditioning. Comfy seats. Air-conditioning. Choc tops. Did we mention air-conditioning? If you’re kinda struggling with the world (i.e. seriously overtired and/or hungover) on New Year’s Day, heading to the cinema is the perfect, relaxing hideout.
9. LAZY BRUNCH AT CANTEEN
Have a long, lazy brunch at Canteen in Coolum, it’s one of the few places open, it’s got epic sprawling ocean views, and a bang on menu that will satisfy any kind of new year craving… or resolution diet!
