A view of Surfers Paradise in Queensland.

Pre-2020, it might have been pretty easy to forget about state lines in Australia—save for the fact that we all call a glass of beer and a chicken parmigiana something totally different. Yes, border closures have been a major downer for the best part of the year—especially with international travel out of action.

But good news is on the horizon guys. Queensland Premier Annastacia Palaszczuk has just announced that she is easing border restrictions with Greater Sydney and NSW from Tuesday 1 December (next week!).

“Now is the time, if you live in New South Wales, come to Queensland, start planning that holiday,” the Premier said.

The decision has been a long time coming—and has only been approved after NSW tracked 28 days with no reported community transmission of COVID-19. Prior to border restrictions easing next week, a visit to QLD would have involved a 14-day quarantine for NSW residents.

If you're planning a trip up north, here's a fresh guide to beautiful Fraser Island. Heading to Sydney? Here's everything you need to know
