It’s a long weekend on the Sunshine Coast, which means we’re diving into holiday mode fast, ‘cause it’ll be over before you can say “hells yeah”.
So, to help you make the most of having an extra day off and, of course, find the best spots to pay your respects on ANZAC Day, we’ve pulled together the best things to do on the Sunshine Coast this weekend.
Festival of the Stone Tour | April 23
Pitch in to clean up Noosa alongside the travellin’ Clean Coast Collective (CCC) crew, this Saturday, April 23 as part of the Festival of the Stone Tour. Then, once you’ve done your good deed of the day, there’s an epic Clean Up After Party with your name all over it taking place at The Junction Laneway. Hosted by Stone and Wood, all profits from beer sales will be going straight back into the CCC, which means you can continue to help the environment. All. Night. Long. Definitely one of the best feel-good things to do on the Sunshine Coast this long weekend.
Sunday Songfest | April 24
If your idea of a long weekend is live music, a good crowd, and a few arvo beers, then you need to get yourself to Sunday Songfest at Peregian Beach Hotel. Find a perch inside or sit under the Pandanus on the deck, and listen to tunes from local musos including Harry Kemp and Barry Charles. The best part? You’ve got tomorrow off!
ANZAC Day Dawn Service | April 25
Pay your respects to our fallen fathers who’ve made the ultimate sacrifice and those who continue to serve while protecting our freedom at one of the many ANZAC Day Dawn Services across the Coast. From Kings Beach to Tewantin and inland to Maleny, there’s many moving tributes taking place where you can listen to the goosebump-inducing Last Post as the sun rises. Lest we forget.
Two-Up At Caloundra RSL | April 25
Once you’ve paid tribute to the service men and women, past and present, do as Aussies do and raise a toast in their honour at the RSL. Then, join your mates in a game of two-up, the oldest gambling game only legal on ANZAC Day at Caloundra RSL’s Viva Deck from 1.30pm.
Brewery Hop From North to South
Start at Moffat Beach’s Blackwater Trading Co. where you can knock back a feed and then wash it all down with their house-made brews. Then, cruise on up to 10 Toes Brewery at Alexandra Headland before heading out to Pomona’s new watering hole, Bonsai Brewhouse. Now, here’s the tough part… who’s putting up their hand for the designated driver badge? #notus
Cure That Hangover With The Best All-Day Breakfasts
After a solid day of beers, there’s a good chance you aren’t going to want to get up before 10am. And once you do wake up, it’s even less likely that you’re going to want to cook a big hangover-fuelled brekkie. Lucky for you, we’ve already thought about it. Enter: the best all-day breakfasts on the Sunshine Coast. You love us, we know.
Escape To The Hinterland For A Feast-Cation
Make the most of the fact you have THREE WHOLE DAYS OFF, and gap it to the hinterland for a food-focussed staycation. Find somewhere romantic to stay, then wind your way along the Blackall Range dropping in to the best cafés in the Sunshine Coast Hinterland for the tastiest eats.
Or, Go Farther Afield For An Island Weekender
Palm trees, azure waters, cocktails by the pool—this the shit we dream about. But with just three days for the escaping, we’ve got to keep those island dreams realistic. I mean, 12 hours in a car when we’ve only got 72 precious hours to spare, just isn’t going to cut it. Which is why, this sneaky list of five super close island escapes is your bible if you’re looking for a last-minute trip that is totally doable.
