5 Awesome Things To Do On The Sunshine Coast This Week

By Trixie Hillen

June can sometimes have a reputation as a bit of a dull month—the weather is just getting seriously cold, Christmas and Easter are but a Prosecco-hazed memory, and we can’t even start thinking about the spring racing season without getting depressed at our lack of great hats.
But The Urban List is here to fill your dance card with a week of awesome events to keep those winter blues at bay. Here’s five things to do on the Sunshine Coast over the next seven days.

Tuesday 13 June

Men’s Only Fitness session and lunch for Men’s Health Week

Among the wailing and gnashing of teeth we’ve been hearing from a few manbabies about a women’s-only screening of a superhero flick in the US, the refrain seems to be “well maybe we should arrange a MEN’s only event!” Well, never fear. Along with other famous exclusively male activities like a job in the Catholic clergy, an embarrassing number of panels and centuries of voting rights, Men’s Health Week brings you a free, men’s only fitness session. Get active, improve your mental health, reduce your risk of heart disease and enjoy a free healthy lunch. But only if you’re a dude.

When: Tuesday 13 June, 11:30am–12:30pm
Where: Resolve Fitness at Caloundra RSL
Cost: Free

Thursday 15 June

Dumplings and Buns Masterclass and Dinner

The magicians that bring us the award-winning morsels at Wasabi in Noosa are sharing just a couple of their secrets at their winter mini-masterclass. Learn the techniques behind handmade bun dough, sauces and fillings, and shaping the perfect dumpling. And once you’ve done all the hard work, you’ll get to sit back and enjoy all your creations with matched wines. Trust us, for $130 per head, that’s a bargain for dinner at Wasabi. Even if you had to cook it yourself!

When: Thursday 15 June 6:30pm–9pm
Where: The Cooking School Noosa
Cost: $130pp

Friday 16 June

Noosa Junction Twilight Market

That feeling when you are heading into the Junction on a Friday evening for a completely unrelated event (which may or may not be a pre-dinner Paddle Pop craving) and you hit the traffic and road signs, and realise that it’s Twilight Market night! Fill up on all your fave street food, check out the artisan stalls, grab a sneaky bevvie and still get your family pack of banana Paddle Pops on the way home.

When: Friday 13 June, 5pm–9pm
Where: Noosa Junction
Cost: Free

All Weekend

The Nambour Side Show

We all know and love Nambour Show. Not only do we get a day off work (not those suckers in Noosa though—they have to wait until September for their Show Holiday!) but we get to eat our bodyweight in sugary goodness, marvel at the carnies and desperately try to convince our SO that we NEED to get some pet chickens. But Nambour Show just got a bit more epic. Our mates at Your Mates Brewery and The Basement have got together to bring us The Nambour Side Show—three days of live bands, beer garden and chilled vibes. Best of all, it’s only $10 entry!

When: Friday 16 June – Sunday 18 June
Where: Nambour Showgrounds
Cost: $10 entry

Sunday 18 June

Roll with the Tewantin Noosa Rollers

Chuck on your tutu, your over-the-knee socks and your wrist guards, and head to the Noosa Leisure for a women’s recreational morning skate. Doesn’t matter if you’re an absolute beginner or an ex-derby girl, bring your quad skates (or message the girls on the page—there’s usually someone who can loan you a pair if you want to try it out—you’ll be welcomed, and you might even pick up a couple of new tricks. Truly the most fun you’ll have on eight wheels.

When: Sunday 18 June, 10am–12pm
Where: Noose Leisure Centre
Cost: $12
