Coffee. Wine. Exceedingly lavish breakfasts. Australia is getting pretty good at a few things, and the latest accolade to add to the ever-growing list is cocktail bars.

Four of our favourite watering holes in Straya have been named in the World’s 50 Best Bars Awards, which was held last night in Spitalfields, part of trendy East London. And once again, Australia did us proud, with two of the top ten venues—The Baxter Inn, Sydney, and The Black Pearl, Melbourne—coming from our shores.

Melbourne’s very own Black Pearl was placed at number 10, marking it out as one of the best cocktail bars to be found in the city when it comes to both short and long drinks, climbing a massive 27 spots since last year’s awards. Gertrude Street’s The Everleigh was placed at no. 25, no doubt influenced by the release of their bottled cocktails earlier this year.

Hidden Sydney basement bar The Baxter Inn was placed at no. 6, with Bulletin Place dropping to no.28 after being awarded 19th place in 2014. The top place was taken by Artesian in London, a super-luxe cocktail bar that is part of the prestigious Langham Hotel. Other top ranking venues include The Dead Rabbit Grocery & Grog in downtown New York, which came in at no. 2, and Singapore’s 28 Hongkong Street, which was placed at no. 7.

So, next time you’re in search of some hard liquor, why not drop into one of our local heroes that’s topping the world charts? Hey, any excuse for a Manhattan is a good one in our books!
