Hands up who likes carbs? Anyone without their hand up can swiftly leave the room, or stay and be convinced by this article. And anyone with their hand in the air is invited to give themselves a self-hug and continue living their lives like an all-around legend *gives nod of approval*.
Either way, be sure to study this list of Sydney’s best, most potatoey dishes from some of Sydney’s best restaurants for your enjoyment.
Soft Potato Gnocchi at White Rabbit
As if you wouldn’t just eat White Rabbit’s hand-crafted gnocchi on its own, but they’ve sweetened the deal by topping it with braised lamb batch sauce, herb gremolata, and truffle pecorino. It’s pillowy soft and is known to cause supreme satisfaction. Now, would you calmly pick yourself up and sprint down there to get this all over your shirt and in your mouth? Good job.
Patate Pizza at Gigi
Carb on carb on carb. That’s the way I like to do things, yes sir! Not only does Gigi plate up some of the best pizza in Sydney, but they offer the Patate, with buffalo mozzarella, fresh rosemary, garlic, and truffle oil. It is every bit as delicious as it sounds, and you’re welcome.
Poutine at The Stuffed Beaver
No doubt you’ve heard all about poutine and have fallen under its charms, but are you absolutely sure you’ve tested Bondi bar The Stuffed Beaver’s poutine enough times? Let us refresh your memory if not: it’s a mountain of crunchy, piping hot fries that have been topped with a healthy amount of gravy and some sensual cheese curds for good measure. Tell the guys we sent you, they’ll know what to do.
Roast Chat Potatoes at The Apollo
Oh god, I could live on these crunchy bad boys from The Apollo and not even care that I ended up the size of a house. These guys are piping hot and soft as a cloud in the middle, and encapsulated by a crunchy, salty outer shell. Potentially the best potatoes in all of Sydney. You know you want them.
Potato Mash at The Dining Room, Park Hyatt Sydney
Sure, this one is a side. But it’s worth going in and getting a vat of it just because it is the silkiest, butteriest mashed potato you have ever had in your life. Fact. Rumour has it the kitchen employs leprechauns to puree the potatoes until they are basically whipped. Okay, that was a lie. But seriously – these are the best mashed potatoes you will ever have. Next question.
Potato Rosti at Le Monde
If there’s a way to sneak carbs into breakfast, I’ll take it without thinking twice. The famous potato rosti at Surry Hills café Le Monde sits under a perfectly oozy poached egg, crispy bacon, avocado, and a drizzle of hollandaise sauce. If that doesn’t make you want to put on your eating pants and run down, who knows what will?
Duck Fat Chips at The Morrison
We all knew it was coming, didn’t we? These oh-so-perfect sliced and fried potatoes are the only sane addition to a meal at CBD restaurant The Morrison. Genius chef Sean Connolly never misses the mark with these. You can grab the fish and duck fat chips if you want to make it a meal (and you will).
Sunday Lamb Roast Pie at The Pie Tin
When a Sydney bakery combines two of the most delicious things in the world, you know it’s got our attention, especially when one of those things is a lamb roast and the other is a pie. This beacon of joy contains juicy roast lamb, potato, pumpkin, and mint gravy. Awww yeah.
