Mike McEnearney’s previous venture, Kitchen by Mike was nothing short of a local icon, so we’re pretty darn overjoyed that he’s bring his sustainable flare to the CBD with no.1 Bent Street by Mike. Set to open in January 2016 in the Wintergarden complex, we predict this new addition will become a focal point of CBD dining.
While the newly redeveloped Wintergarden complex on O’Connell Street is a far cry from the Rosebery warehouse Mike is used to, having led the team at Rockpool for four years, this new venture is sure to impress the working crowd. Well and truly shaking up the Sydney food scene with his canteen style vision back in 2012, it’s safe to say that this new restaurant by Mike will be doing just the same for Sydney formal dining.
Maintaining his food philosophy that puts a premium on seasonal and local produce, the restaurant’s menu will change daily meaning workday lunches never have to be just ordinary anymore. And now in a venue that can house up to 100 diners, Mike will be feeding more and more of Sydney’s hungry mouths.
Due to his recently appointed role as Creative Director of the Carriageworks Farmers Market, Mike’s relationship with Australia’s finest produce will no doubt translate into some top-notch quality nosh at his new CBD restaurant. Opening for both lunch and dinner, six days a week, no.1 Bent Street by Mike will be a tasty and convenient way for office workers to refresh and reset because we all know that the best way to beat the mid-week slump is with some mighty tasty food.
However, lovers of Mike’s casual canteen style of dining need not fear. In addition to setting up shop in the CBD, Mike and his team are actively scouting for new locations so that his iconic canteen style will still live on.
