Things to do in Melbourne

If you’re deft at weaving a flower crown and know the difference between ‘le’ and ‘la’ then So Frenchy So Chic In The Park is the day on the green for you. Returning in January 2016 with that certain je ne sais quoi, SFSC takes a day spent avoiding grass stains and transforms it into an afternoon of Champagne on the lawn with a sense of whimsy that will not, can not, be contained.

Hindi Zahra (purported to be the North-African Patti Smith), Brigitte (duo, Aurélie Saada and Sylvie Hoarau), Lou Doillon and Soviet Suprem will provide la musique for the day, providing us picnic-rug loungers with folk, blues, lounge-pop, gypsy beats and more.

Don’t fret if your picnic basket hasn’t had a good clean-out since an ill-fated shot at a romantic date (ants eat people too it seems) circa 2010. Crusty baguettes, salad jardinière, petite four chocolate ganache tart will be available in the specially-made picnic boxes from Bright Young Things and Simmone Logue (pre-order though ‘cause they sound damn tasty). For those who want to kick things to the next level, a banquet will also be available with seafood, crêpes, macaroons and ice cream—served by the Frenchiest of food artisans of course.

While we adults are stuffing our faces with choice munchies, the kids can be entertained with face painting, puppet shows pétanque (similar to lawn bowls or bocce) and croquet.

Don’t think we’d get to the end of this post without a mention of Champagne. Prepare to sip on Laurent Perrier bubbles, French beer, rosé from Provence, reds and whites from Bordeaux. And what festival would be complete without a healthy dose of vintage? Special cocktails mixed up in the SFSC vintage caravan will be available for when your pinkie finger gets tired from being poised over a glass of France’s finest.
