Auckland’s food scene is fast-paced and always changing, so to keep you in the know, we’ve had our eyes peeled for the newest openings and tastiest products around the city. This week there is a new toastie haven, gut-loving kefir sodas and dreamy collaborations.

Here’s a round-up of the foodie news you need to know this week.

The Newest Gut-Lovin' Kefir Soda

Created by the team behind The Collective, Redeem is the newest and tastiest drink that is good for the body and the planet. With four delicious flavours, the crafted kefir soda is an unpasteurised, fermented and organic drink that is low in sugar and full of all the gut friendly probiotics you need. The raspberry hibiscus is definitely our pick of the bunch—refreshing and light with a hint of fizz and berry tartness. Oh, and did we mention Redeem are a part of the 1% for the Planet initiative to help fund the planting of native trees throughout New Zealand? How good.

Eat, Drink, Love Ponsonby Kicks Off

A special foodie festival is coming to Ponsonby for a month of celebrating incredible cuisine, something the area has become known for. Eat, Drink, Love, Ponsonby is kicking off on July 15th and the festival includes more than fifty eateries from acclaimed restaurants to casual dining and bars with one of our favourite joints—Burger Burger also joining the fun. There will be specially priced menus, international guest chefs and mixologists and bespoke events popping up at a variety of venues and spaces around Ponsonby.

FISH Launch New Winter Menu

With seafood at the heart of its offering, FISH Restaurant serves up exceptional dishes of fresh ocean fare in a unique way. The Princes Wharf eatery has released an incredible winter menu with traditional flavours and exciting new creations. The must try? The lobster roll–an absolute delicacy, complete with white kimchi, lemon, herbs, pancetta chips and smoked hollandaise.

Cold? There's A Shiraz For That

We've got a lot of love for the reds coming out of Aussie's glorious Barossa Valley at the moment—seriously, is there anything better than a warming red for an evening of Netflix and chill? Top of our list has to be The General Shiraz with its decadent plum and cherry jam swagger and a delicious chocolate and raisin edge. Pair it with beef or lamb and you've got yourself one helluva night in.

Nespresso's Two New Flavours

Coffee legends Nespresso have released two limited edition coffees, Café Istanbul and Caffe Venezia–inspired by the world’s first coffee houses of the 1500s and 1700s. The new flavours encourage the rushing coffee drinker to take their time to appreciate the distinct flavours, as it was originally savoured in the vibrant coffee houses. To celebrate, the talented team at The Caker have created two delicious cake recipes for you to make at home to enjoy with your cup of coffee, have a look here.

Saan Launch Impressive Vegan Wine List

Saan are not only experts in creating culinary delights, they also make dining easy for everyone with their extensive plant-based options. There is even more good news for those who choose not to consume animal products, because the restaurant has just added a full vegan wine list to their menu. It includes a range of Chardonnay, Pinot Noir, Sauvignon Blanc and Riesling options which will go perfectly with any delicious dish, vegan or not.

The New Toastie Haven In Town

Not much can beat a humble toastie, it really is the ultimate comfort food. The new Mt Eden hole-in-the-wall spot, Cheese on Toast, know toasties better than anyone. What started as a food truck, Guerilla Grill quickly gained a reputation for whipping up seriously tasty toasties. The new permanent location has not only a full toastie menu, but also a loaded toast menu and a coffee machine to complete the experience.

Double Dutch And Bacon Brothers Make It Official

When we first heard Double Dutch Fries and Bacon Brothers, two of Auckland’s most iconic food trucks, were coming together for a collaboration in May it was a foodie dream come true. Well the dream lives on because the duo has decided to make things permanent, teaming up full time in Double Dutch Fries' Takapuna location. In true food truck fashion, both have chosen to focus on what they do best and work cooperatively as opposed to trying to compete–too good to be true.
