We've been waiting patiently for news on Diner en Blanc Perth ever since they postponed this year's event, and as luck would have it, we finally have some.
After the event's success over the last four years—which have seen over 5,000 of Perth’s biggest foodies and culture connoisseurs make their way to locations like Elizabeth Quay, the Esplanade in Fremantle, Yagan Square and Crown Parklands—the event organisers have been working away to make sure this year's event will be bigger and better than ever. And after having to press pause on their original plans in April this year (thanks, rona), we were stoked to hear this year's event is back on the cards.
In case you’ve been living under a rock, Diner en Blanc began in Paris in 1988 when Francois Pasquier decided to organise a picnic for his friends. As the number of guests grew, he decided to hold the dinner in a public space and ask everyone to dress in all white to easily recognise one another. These days around 17,000 Parisians participate each year and in 2009, the first ever export of Le Diner en Blanc took place in Montreal, followed by New York City in 2011. Diner en Blanc is now held in 77 cities in over 23 countries with more than 120,000 annual guests.
To uphold the Diner en Blanc tradition, guests are asked to wear head-to-toe white attire and bring their own portable tables, white chairs, white table linens, tableware, and gourmet meals (you can also pre-purchase a gourmet picnic). Over the course of the evening you'll enjoy a unique alfreso dining experience amidst music, entertainment, and some seriously breathtaking visual moments including the iconic group waving of a white cloth napkin at sunset (to mark the beginning of dinner) and the lighting of thousands of sparklers (to initiate dancing and mingling).
As always, the location is 100% secret—and will be until the day of the event—but we can finally confirm that Diner en Blanc will be going ahead in Perth on Saturday 7 November, so now is the time to clear your diary and start bleaching your whites.
Keep in mind, to attend this insta-worthy spectacle you need to earn an invite first. Thankfully registrations are still open, though, so go ahead and pop yourself on the waiting list and cross all of your fingers and toes.
