If you’re a Leederville local, you will probably recall the devastation felt the day we discovered the beloved Tom’s Cafe right in the heart of Oxford Street was closing down towards the start of the pandemic. But thankfully since closing the OG, the legends have come back with a new and improved Tom’s in Highgate.

Located directly across from Hyde Park on William St in Highgate, Chu Bakery is the ideal spot to pick up a little baked treatie and coffee before strolling down to enjoy it picnic style.

Meet Goods Bakery, a new bakery slash cafe that has just thrown open its doors in West Leedy down near Bad Love Burgers and Nowhereman Brewing. This one comes to us from the legendary crew behind Modus Coffee, so quality coffee and tasty treats are kind of a given. But we're also big fans of its terracotta-hued check floors, sunny window seats and all-round cool minimal aesthetic.

Take one look at the Instagram feed of Carina’s Kitchen and you’ll probably find it hard to believe that almost everything is plant-based. It looks too good to be true! But rest assured, there are no dairy, eggs or animal products to be found in Carina’s dessert cabinet—just light and fluffy filled doughnuts, gooey cinnamon scrolls, cookies, brownies, cakes and more. At her new shop inside Hawaiians Mezz in Mount Hawthorn she's also expanded her offering, with some non-vegan sweets and savouries as well as coffee now on the go too.

For west coast dessert fans, The Honeycake needs no introduction. With now two stores across the west coast, The Honeycake has developed a cult following and has fast become a dessert destination among Perth locals, foodies and travellers alike.

Set in a charming character space with timber floors and stained glass windows, 1982 Food + Coffee is an absolute Subi gem. The crew here are dishing up top-notch coffees, flavoured lattes, delicious takeaway bagels and toasties, plus, stunning dine-in brunch dishes that taste even better than they look.

Just when you thought the State Buildings couldn’t possibly get any better, they go ahead and open SHOP 1875—a retro-style Aussie milk bar brimming with nostalgic eats that’ll take you right back to days spent riding to the neighbourhood corner shop to spend your hard earned pocket money.

If you live north of the river, we’ve got some very good news for you. Oh So Deli—a delish sandwich bar and cafe—is open in Woodlands Shopping Centre, and we're still drooling over all the amazing sandwiched creations on offer. 

Toasties might just be the best thing on earth, honestly. We’re lucky enough to introduce you to Melts Gourmet Toastie Bar, dishing up the finest crispy sambos that Freo has ever seen. 

Brought to you by Melissa Palinkas and Susan Whelan, the power duo behind Young George, Ethos Deli + Dining Room is a fresh take on a New York-style deli paired with Eastern European dishes inspired by Melissa’s heritage.

At Mary Street Bakery's Claremont cafe you'll find their famed doughnuts and bread amongst all the other treats you know and love from their five other locations around Perth. 

A hotspot for foodies from all over Perth, Angelo Street Market in South Perth really is the place to go for fresh local produce, gourmet grocery goodies and everything in between. 

Sitting pretty at the base of the Ritz-Carlton at Elizabeth Quay is none other than Aurore Patisserie, home to heavenly pastries and delicious coffee. Aside from their irresistible flaky croissants and scrolls, these guys also brew a mean coffee with beans by Veneziano Coffee Roasters and they’ve got soy, oat and almond milk on hand—there’s nothing they’re not good at. Enjoy the ambience and pastel tones inside the patisserie as you sip and crunch away, or take in the sights of Elizabeth Quay by taking a seat outdoors.

If you’re after freshly baked bread with freshly milled flour, Miller & Baker on Lake Street in Perth is the place to go. Grab yourself a loaf of tangy sourdough, traditional dark rye or a crunchy baguette and head home to make the softest sandwiches you’ll ever eat, or grab one of the sambos they make in store, if that’s more your speed.

If the thought of tasty, made-fresh-daily mozzarella, bocconcini and burrata makes you drool, you’re going to want to head to La Delizia Latticini in Victoria Park immediately.  Award winning cheese maker Antonio Caroli is using his skills to turn fresh produce from around WA into the most delicious handmade cheese we have ever tasted.

From the crew behind North Street Store, Little Loaf Bakery in South Fremantle is baking some of the best bread in the southern suburbs. It’s a self-serve concept here, which probably means you’ll walk away with more than intended, but there are no regrets when it comes to baked goods. In the cabinets you’ll find their incredible, award-winning bread as well as pastries, conti rolls and sweet treats. And the brew is pretty legendary too.

La Vida Vegan in Subiaco is Perth's only vegan grocery. Filled to the brim with vegan versions of everyone's favourite foods, beauty and health products, this small but mighty grocer has just expanded to include a vegan deli.

Gluten-free bakery Darrington's has added another string to its bow by transitioning into a completely vegan bakery to boot. This hidden bakery, tucked behind the AirSpace yoga studio, is pumping out vegan and gluten-free sweets like doughnuts, brownies, eclairs and lemon meringue pies.

If you’re looking for cheese, wine and good times, MRKT SPACE at Leighton Beach has all your needs covered. Grab a seat, take in the ocean views and build your own charcuterie board, or simply pop in for a coffee. It’s all very casual and laid back here, just the way we like it. They even stock organic, preservative free and vegan goodies, for the health conscious. The light and airy fit-out lends itself to social dining and functions and we hear there are wine tastings to come, so watch this space.

Fresh pasta is always the way to go, and at Sal's Pasta Deli in Cottesloe you'll only find the freshest homemade goodness going around.

The Little Bakery in Nedlands make some of the tastiest cupcakes we’ve had the pleasure of trying. They’re baked to just the right size with the perfect level of sweetness—the kind of cupcake you could definitely go back for seconds for. With flavours spanning from the standard chocolate and vanilla to coconut, cookies and cream and red velvet, The Little Bakery also make celebration cakes and seriously excellent biscuits (think: melting moments, florentines and chocolate chip).

Unfortunately, grocery shopping is part of our daily lives, but it’s not all about the big chain supermarkets, people.The Herdsman in Churchlands is one of the best gourmet supermarkets in Perth and with a deli, bakery, butcher and florist, there’s no way you’re leaving empty handed. The staff here try each and every one of the products stocked to give it their tick of approval, and it shows! It's hard to say what are favourite section of the supermarkets is, but we know for sure that their picnic hamper which includes cheese, meats, salads, dips, bread AND crackers is a winner! It all comes in a handy little thermo bag so you can grab it on your way to the picnic—that's what we call winning.
