While Coronavirus lockdowns might have forced zoos around the world to close their gates to the public, loads of them have come up with creative ways to share behind the scenes footage with their followers no matter how far away they may be. We’ve been spending our free time watching Panda Cams, penguins roaming empty aquariums and wildlife live streams a-plenty, but now we can finally get back to the good ol' Perth Zoo. That’s right, the team here have jumped aboard the live-stream bandwagon to bring us closer to all of our favourite animals.
Once a week, you can get up close and personal with animals big and small on Perth Zoo’s Facebook page. There’s no set schedule for streaming, but don’t worry if you miss out—all videos are posted to their page so you can watch them anytime. This Thursday at midday they’ll be hosting a Rhino live stream including a zookeeper Q&A session, so be sure to put that in your diary.
Follow the zoo’s Facebook or Instagram pages and you’ll be treated to footage of Dinar the orangutan eating peanut butter in his bedroom (sounds similar to our lockdown habits), Dingo Cams and so much more. The zoo even has a TikTok account (@perthzoo) if that’s more up your alley.
If you know of some little monkeys that need entertaining, Perth Zoo has also put together a bunch of Home Safari content which can be found here. Signing up gives users full access to keeper talks, fact sheets and loads of activities. There’s also content for teachers who want to bring the Zoo to their classrooms while there’s a pause on excursions.
Once you’ve checked out everything the zoo’s social media has to offer, download one of their high definition Zoom backgrounds to make your next family catch up that much more entertaining.
