Imagine a workout that combines CrossFit-style moves with Timezone’s Dance Dance Revolution and you have PRAMA, the latest fitness class that’s landed in Perth.
With only three gyms in Australia offering the workout, Perth’s at the precipice of the PRAMA movement, which has already made waves across the USA, thanks to the crew from JSA Recreational Centre in Rivervale.
The gym opened around six months ago and also houses Perth’s only indoor stand-up paddle boarding workouts, HydroStretch and HydroBoxing.
But today, we’re here to tell you about PRAMA, because it’s making workouts fun again. Not any less hard, but still fun.
From the minute the instructor customises the workout of the day and explains the movements, the room gets dark, music blasts from the speakers and colourful lights switch on, invoking nightclub vibes.
Then the workout unfolds in 45 second blocks of sweat and tears and 15 second rests as you switch between the stations and try to keep your breakfast down.
While it might sound similar to F45, the one element that sets PRAMA apart from a regular circuit class are the light-up wall and floor pads that are sensitive to pressure and track your movements. You’ll go from sprinting to stomp on lit up pads to whacking them as fast as you can with your hands whack-a-mole style, and in between, you’ll be slamming dead balls into the ground a la The Rock.
It’s full on, but the class goes by fast and is said to burn up to 1000 calories in one hit, so you’ll be wiping up your sweat with a smug look on your face as you leave. And let’s not forget to mention the insane endorphin hit you’ll get to carry with you for the remainder of the day. Trust us, you’ll want to check it out here.
