We’ve celebrated Christmas, partied in the new decade, slowly dragged ourselves back into work and now it’s time for another celebration—Australia Day. Better yet, there’s nothing more Australian than a three-day weekend.
Blast the barbecues, crack a tinny, don’t forget to slip slop slap, and celebrate Australia in our favourite part of this great southern land—the glorious Sunshine Coast.
No FOMO needed, here’s a cracker lineup of things to do on the Sunshine Coast this Australia Day long weekend.
Saturday 25 January
Hot 100 Countdown With Your Mates
It will be one action-packed day this Saturday at Your Mates Brewhouse’s Hot 100 Countdown soiree. Celebrating both Triple J’s song of the year reveal, along with the results of the GABS Hottest 100, we totally recommend pulling up a stool at this Sunshine Coast brewery. And we’ll let you in on a little secret…if Your Mates beers, Larry, Sally, Macca or Donnie make the GABS list, they’ve got something a little special planned.
Aus Weekend 2020 Party At Taps
If you are yet to celebrate Australia Day yabbi racing, then here is your chance. Taps in Mooloolaba is keeping the Australian fun, games, and banter going all weekend with a weekend-long party including Yabbi racing, an all Aussie menu, Blackflag Brewing giveaways and beers for days.
Hottest 100 Countdown Party
Name a more iconic Australian party other than the Hottest 100 Countdown… yep, we’re stumped too. Nothing says Australia Day long weekend like enjoying a schooner or two, and listening to Triple J’s 2019 music wrap-up. This year, you can enjoy the music, flowing beers and good vibes at Malt Shovel Taphouse. Make a day of it and when all is said and done and the number one song has been named, stick around and keep the party going with tunes from local Micky Gee Music.
Sunday 26 January
Salt Water Sundays
Jump aboard the MV Catalina this Australia Day long weekend for our favourite floating party, Saltwater Sundays. Held at Lions Park, the party begins with breakfast from 7am and entertainment through to 4pm, including live music from some of our fave locals, including The Lyrical and The Famos. Devour food from world-famous chef, Peter Kuruvita, plus there’s plenty of fun and games to keep the ankle biters occupied as well.

Taking place outside of the Banana Bender Pub, register a team and get ready for the great race from 8am. Stay a little longer and you’ll get to soak up true-blue tunes of Aussie classics from 12pm.
