We all know vinyl is back. And so it should be! What’s not to love about that beautiful crackling static as the needle prepares to spin your tune, or the warm-as-the-sun sounds that dance from the speaker?
Which brings us to Record Store Day 2019, a celebration of all that is vinyl. It’s a worldwide event that celebrates the unique culture and community of independent record stores around the globe. In fact, there are now Record Store Day events on nearly every continent.
Over the past twelve years it has grown into quite the occasion. Take a look at previous Record Store Day ambassadors: Josh Homme, Ozzy Osbourne, Iggy Pop, Jack White, Dave Grohl, Metallica and St. Vincent. And if you’re wondering who got the 2019 gig? Pearl Jam, that’s who.
The Sunshine Coast, as you’d expect, is also taking part thanks to a couple record stores around the region.
Wax Buildup in Maroochydore is opening its doors as 8am, and is promising a food truck and a bunch of performing artists. From there the treasure hunt will begin for the super special Record Store Day releases that are hidden throughout the store. Stock is limited and there’s some priceless vinyls, so don’t leave it too late to start digging.
Over in Nambour, Backbeat Records is taking part in the festivities with half price bargain boxes and $4 off all shelved LPs. There’ll also be loads of new stock in-store. It all kicks off at 9.30am, so go via Woombye and sip on a steaming brew at Winnie first.
