After growing concerns around public health, several of the Sunshine Coast’s major events have been cancelled.
As it stands, Noosa Eat & Drink, Big Pineapple Music Festival, Woodford’s “The Planting” Festival, Anywhere Festival and the Surf Life Saving Championships have all been cancelled.
Thankfully, all is not completely lost with The Big Pineapple Festival already promising to re-schedule to an unknown date in October. Phew!
The news comes as public gatherings of over 500 people are banned across Australia and penalties are put in place for those who breach isolation terms in Queensland, which should see anyone returning to the country from overseas enter into a mandatory two-week isolation period.
Simple measures—like washing your hands and social distancing—can be taken to minimise your own risk, along with the risk posed to those around you. While locals across the Sunshine Coast start to lockdown for staycations at home, the best thing we can do is take practical steps to look after ourselves and each other so that we can get through this together—and we have no doubt we will.
