It’s no surprise to any film buff that the ’00s fostered some of the best films to ever grace our movie screens. From cult classics to underground festival films––the ’00s are, in our opinion, one of cinema’s greatest years. In light of this, we’ve decided to round up the best of the best 00’s films that we believe are totally worth watching. Grab some popcorn, a soda, your bae, your bestie, your cat, whoever…. and endure this ultimate ’00s film festival

Almost Famous

Who doesn’t love an on-the-road film? 15-year-old William, is an unabashed music fan who is inspired by the seminal bands of the time. When his love of music lands him an assignment from Rolling Stone magazine to interview the up-and-coming band, Stillwater. This one’s for those you really do wish they were a rock star.

Kill Bill

Vengeful, badass woman who seeks revenge of her murderous ex-husband?  Count us in! This film is a total cult classic that we NEEDED to have on our list of the greats. Quentin Tarantino provides us with banger after banger, and this is one is a definite fave of ours. If you’re one to enjoy lots of violence, guts and glory––this is for you.

Little Miss Sunshine

This one gets the tears rolling and stomachs hurting, a total sucker for those who love to have a good laugh and cry. Aspiring beauty queen, Olive is played by the talented Abigail Breslin. A girl who dreams of being Little Miss Sunshine. Accompanied by her dysfunctional family, this film will have you in fits.

Eternal Sunshine of The Spotless Mind

Jim Carrey and Kate Winslet star in this star-studded film that is a serious tear jerker. We learn to love, hate and envy characters in this classic. After a painful heartbreak, character Clementine undergoes a procedure to erase memories of her former boyfriend, Joel, from her mind. It’s a film about the intricacies of relationships and the pain of loss. Cue the tissues.

The Notebook

It’s no surprise that this film could potentially be the saddest thing, ever. Centred around love and loss with the inability to be together, this movie involves a lot of tissues (we promise this list of films gets less heavy hearted). In 1940s South Carolina, mill worker Noah Calhoun and rich girl Allie are desperately in love, however things take a quick turn when he is sent off to war. This one features Ryan Gosling (*screams*) and Rachel McAdams.

This action-packed film gets the heart racing and acts as the ultimate key to all of our sci-fi wants and needs. Set in a fictional world, Avatar explores the Na’vi people who live in the world of Pandora. A paralysed former marine, Jake Sully becomes mobile again in the quest to save Pandora from destruction. One of the highest grossing films in the world, it is sure to please.

When a Roman general is betrayed and his family murdered by an emperor’s corrupt son, he comes to Rome as a gladiator to seek revenge. This movie is a definite for those who like a little bit of violence in your movie sesh.

The Beach

Two words––Young Leo. Pretty sure we’ve already made up your mind by now, right? Adventurer Richard touches down in Thailand with the desire to find something real on his mind. Accompanied by his pals Etienne and Francoise, they discover “The Beach” a hidden paradise that is less than perfect.

Juno presented to the world one of the most beloved soundtracks ever made. Ellen Page and Michael Cera’s “Anyone Else But You” was a total winner in our books. Teen pregnancy gone wrong, this film bases itself around growing up, first love and well, having a baby at 16. This movie taught us a lot about life, and we think it is among some of the greatest.

Mean Girls

Two words––cat fight. Mean Girls blessed our screens in 2004 and remains one of the highest rated teen films to date, with total reason. 2004 welcomed Regina George, Katy Heron and their group of plastics to the world and without them––we just don’t think we would be where we are now. We learn the dos and the absolute don’ts of high school. And of course, we learn the meaning of fetch––“which is like, the rules of feminism.”
