You’d think that after months of binging Netflix, Stan and every single streaming service known to man that we’d be over the flicks by now, but honestly, nothing beats a trip to the movies.
Maybe it’s the smell of buttery popcorn that hits you in face the second you step inside, the plush comfy chairs or the chance to switch your phone off and disconnect from the outside world—whatever it is, we love a good movie sesh.
Fortunately, after months of lockdown and restrictions, HOTA’s Gold Coast cinema will be officially re-opening this weekend, from Saturday 6 June.
They’ll be swinging open their doors with a thoughtfully-curated selection of films, including In My Blood It Runs—a new doco about a 10-year-old Aboriginal boy in Alice Springs—the Australian drama, Hearts & Bones, as well as Oscar-winning flick, Parasite. You can view the whole line-up here.
There will be some changes to your post-COVID cinema experience, and it goes without saying it’s for your safety and those around you. Measures include, capped cinema capacities and seating allocation, which will allow friends and families to remain seated together while distanced from other bookings. Additional measures include online booking—online transaction fees have been waived—staggered screenings to avoid unnecessary congestion in foyers, as well as no entry into HOTA for non-ticket holders. Sounds like a pretty sweet deal to us.
While the cafe will remain closed for now, the candy bar will be re-opening, so prepare your stomach for bulk snacks.
You can purchase tickets your now, so head here to secure your spot.
