It's becoming harder and harder to keep up with all things crafted, artsy and undeniably Melbourne, what with the never ending stream of updates on new store openings, artist exposes, and all round creative energy that this city hums at its own frequency to.
However, a few geniuses had the idea to assemble the cream of the crop in terms of design, and hustle them and their wares to the confines of the Royal Exhibition Building, for The Big Design Market – a three day extravaganza dedicated to everything we want in our houses and wish we could make ourselves!
The Big Design Market gives you the chance to check out a huge range of fashion, accessories, stationery, lifestyle and kids' products, homewares, and lots of things with cats printed on them. Also, if you're a designer yourself or are thinking of venturing into the fray, attending will help you keep a finger on the pulse of all emerging designers that are more than likely to blow up in the next couple of months. Seriously, though, this is where the terrarium frenzy started last year.
If that isn't enough, there'll will be a pop-up Misschu stall for rice paper rolls, Beatbox Kitchen and Taco Truck outside, Earl Canteen redefining the sandwich, Campos on the beans, beers from 2brothers and teas from Scullery. There's also a little play area to rope the kids off while you peruse the stalls. Hooray!
Best of all, it's totally free of charge, so you hardly have the excuse to miss the opportunity to pick up the best Christmas presents ever (quote from my cousin post 2012 Big Design Market haul) from the coolest cats in Melbourne, as well as seeing a few International representatives and what they have to offer. If you can't decide, pick up a goodie bag from the front door full of the Festival picks!
