How To: Pack Light When You’re A Beauty Junkie

By Rachel Stevenson - 21 Dec 2016

beauty junkie

Picture this: You're packing for your upcoming holiday. Obviously you've included two types of highlighter (one for day and one for night. Duh), five different types of hair product (hairspray, dry shampoo, do I need to list them all?) you’re your straightener, your curler and your hairdryer. Now to top off all of these essential items you still need extra things like toothpaste, shampoo and moisturiser.

But now you've got no room for the 37 outfits you need to pack. Not to mention the 16 pairs of shoes you will 100% need for a week away.

Sound like you? We thought so. Which is why we’ve compiled a list of handy tips for packing light (beauty-wise) to make sure you can still have all your fave holiday looks with you.

Choose Mini Sizes

Want to pack hairspray, heat protector, dry shampoo, hair oil AND shampoo and conditioner, but not quite sure you'd be able to lift your bag (let alone get it through security), if you do? Fear not! Most brands do handy purse or travel sized options of your fave products. Now you've downsized, there's probably room for mousse, gel and some mist too. Our fave minis are by Oribe. Check out their luxe range, including a mini of their cult Dry Texturizing Spray.

Borrow The Boring Stuff Off Your Mates (Or Sister)

Presumably you're going on holiday with at least one other person (No? Ok, you can skip this one). If said person is a female (or a very generous male), suggest they bring shampoo, shaving cream, sun cream, moisturiser and conditioner. Then borrow all of them. This nifty little trick just sees you bringing nail polish, your straightener and tan.

Think About The Weather

It sounds simple, but hear us out. If you're heading off on a skiing holiday, you're probably not going to need fake tan. And if you're jetting over to Bali, you can probably leave your super-hydrating moisturiser and straighteners/curlers at home. By eliminating the unnecessary, you'll save yourself valuable space for eyeshadows, self-tanning mitts, 6 nail polishes and more. (Hey, we're nothing if not savvy here at The Urban List).

Go For Multi-Use Products

3-in-1 body wash, shampoo and conditioner might not sound glam, but there are plenty of products out there that double (or triple) up on uses, and in turn save you space, whilst keeping the glam factor in tact. Like the 2-in-1 shampoo and conditioner from R+Co. Super hydrating, you'll never even notice you skipped on actual conditioner.

Simplify

Now, don't go into shock when you hear what were about to say. Ok, ready? Right. On this trip, instead of going all-out on your beauty looks, take a few looks and and maybe even go minimal for a few nights out. We all know holidays are for showing off, but if you take away the time of doing your makeup, it leaves a lot more time for tanning, drinking sangria and all round enjoyment. Save the OTT looks for when you're back home and are going to *accidentally* bump into that cute trainer from the gym.

Same Goes For Hair

Whilst you may feel like you literally cannot live without a hairdryer, curlers and straighteners, just think about how much room your portable hair salon takes up! Instead why not try out a few simple up-dos or braids that you can rock without having to undergo 4 hours of styling in the badly lit hotel bathroom?

Think Ahead

It goes without saying, but if you're off on a week long holiday in the sun, why not go prepared? Get a tan, nails, toes, eyelashes and wax done before you jet off. All of these (when done professionally) will last at least a week, meaning no dodgy shaving jobs mid holiday for you.
