Scent is arguably the most powerful of all the senses—it can transport you to another place, or a different time. Born out of a warehouse and raised in Melbourne, Flâner Fragrances is a niche fragrance house that are all about using scent to tell a story, with each product in their perfume line developed with a distinctive profile and place in mind. Although they only launched in 2022, they’ve already developed a keen following, and are now opening up their very own boutique store on the iconic Gertrude Street in Fitzroy.

Sometimes, the simple act of gifting others—or yourself—a bouquet of flowers is all that’s needed to brighten one’s day. There is a little more to it than just bunching a couple of flowers together, however, and that’s where Prairies comes in.

In the past eight years, FilmNeverDie has changed locations five times. And now they’re finally ready to settle down at their latest location in the CBD.

Located in the heart of the city on Collins Street is MetaScent perfume studio and retail store run by Janelle Donnelly and Huynh Hai Yen who met studying professional perfumery.

The Plant Runner is the result of a long-time passion project between two friends, Duncan Hilder and Dominic Hooghuis. These guys are both qualified horticulturalists who have each run their own businesses with years of experience between them.

Shut up and take our money—Milligram just opened its fourth store in Carlton. For those of you who are not familiar, Milligram is the ultimate store for the design, stationery and lifestyle buff. 

It’s official: Melbourne’s the second Australian home of the legendary Leica brand. And it’s three times bigger than Sydney’s location. (Not that we measured or anything.)

We’ll try not to geek out too hard with this one, but it won’t be easy. The Store Of Requirement lends itself to multiple exclamation marks, obscure Harry Potter puns and dressing in wizards robes like nobody’s watching.

You’d never know it was here from down on Collins St. Perched up on the second level, with a view of leafy plane trees, there’s a New York-style jewellery store with a history going back to Melbourne’s gold rush days. This is the new-look Kozminsky.

Pépite started in 2017 as a pop-up in Northcote: a small place for founder and artist Irina Rybakov to display her creations and champion some local designers.

If you’re into off-beat homewares, browsing St Kilda’s Scout House represents the classic kid-inside-candy-store conundrum. You’ll be lucky to walk out of there without three planters, two industrial desk lamps and an 8-ft bespoke dining table.

Koko Black is one of Melbourne’s most luxe chocolatiers. The chocolate shop-cum-café is every sweet tooth’s delight, serving chocolate filled dishes in house as well as selling bespoke offerings to take home. The build-your-own chocolate gift boxes are a particular favourite, as are the hot chocolates. 

A veritable treasure trove of wonderment and delight, The SuperCool is the ultimate gift and homewares store in Fitzroy. North Melbourne store and craft workshop Guild of Objects combines a gallery space, a workshop space and a retail store, all in one place. Centred around building a community of crafty folk, the workshop holds sessions on everything from ceramics to hand-decorating. When we first discovered East Brunswick boutique The Boroughs, we nearly cried with joy! Located on Carlisle Street in St Kilda East, Beautyologist is a Parisian-inspired beauty salon offering waxing, facials, nails, massages and more. Owner Sia Psicharis leads a team of expert therapists that pride themselves on offering only the best in skincare and treatments. Beautyologist also has an extensive range of gifts, skincare and candles available from leading brands such as Aspect, Aesop, Voluspa and Glasshouse.

Once you're done marvelling at all the ACMI has to offer you cinephiles, indulge a little longer with the ACMI Store. Located in the plaza at Federation Square, the ACMI Store has an amazing range of coffee table books, quirky little gifts, DVDs, toys and magazines. If you're interested in ACMI as an organisation, there's heaps of stuff about the Melbourne icon including ACMI publications, study guides, exhibition catalogues and merch. Canary Jane's Flowers is a florist and gift shop on Burwood Road in Hawthorn with a distinctly 50s twist. The kitschy fit out - complete with checkerboard floor, vintage dressing tables and ever-changing window displays - is a girlie girl's dream!

On Glenferrie Road in Hawthorn, Mozi is a sunny homewares haven. Cushions, plates and linens in pretty colours, candles and soaps, prints and patterns adorn the store, appealing to the 1950s housewife in all of us. Great for gifts, or to brighten up your own abode.

If you're looking for a luxury bag or accessories on Collins Street, but don't want a big name brand stamped all over it, then Melbourne made label A-Esque is sure to tempt. Made from Italian leather and designed by ex-Mimco designer, Amanda Briskin-Rettig, A-Esque bags are both beautiful and elegant.

Melbourne homewares label Mozi is known for its colourful designs and whimsical touches. Their Fitzroy store doesn't disappoint, selling everything from printed tea towels to deliciously scented body products. Caution: Mozi products may make you do a Martha Stewart and match your mugs to your apron. Don't say we didn't warn you!

Unassuming from the outset, A-Esque's Chapel Street South Yarra store is inviting and classy, with clean, modern appeal. Designed for practicality and luxury, A-Esque bags make a sleek and modern style statement. Ex-Mimco designer Amanda Briskin-Rettig knows her stuff, and you'll be proud to carry one of her simply stunning leather bags.

Bud Flowers on High Street in Armadale is one of Melbourne's most gorgeous and fragrant floral boutiques. It's been running since 1986, and is now under the stewardship of owner Meridee Fraser, one of the city's premier florists. 

Synonymous with all things made from coloured resin, Dinosaur Designs is a national treasure. The Chapel Street store stocks a substantial range of bowls, vases, jewellery and more. Step inside and we guarantee you'll be like a kid in a candy store. Beautiful pieces, built to last.
