Just a week back, Melbourne’s beloved NGV closed its doors to the public due obvious concerns you’re no doubt aware of. And while you won’t be strolling the gallery’s Great Hall until least Monday 13 April (a date that’s likely to change with the rapidly evolving situation), you can view almost all of the gallery’s collection online along with a virtual curator’s tour of the Keith Haring | Jean-Michel Basquiat: Crossing Lines exhibition.
The tour will be available from Saturday 4 April, which not only explores the duo’s works in detail, but features interviews with curators, designers and plenty of behind the scenes footage which offer further insight into Haring and Basquait.
You can find the tour on NGV Channel, which also serves as a digital archive of around 75,000+ works that you’re free to stroke your chin at from the comfort of your screen.
Current highlights include the Collecting Comme virtual tour, which explores the works of Comme des Garçons’ founder Rei Kawakubo and an ebook deep-diving into the just-opened Japanese Modernism exhibition.
There’s also plenty online for the little ones while you peruse the mammoth catalogue, and truth be told, some of the at-home activities look like a blast for the big kids, too. Go on, you’ve got time.
