Take A Sneak Peak At The 30th Melbourne Queer Film Festival Line Up
The 30th Melbourne Queer Film Festival is just eight weeks away, and several festival highlights have dropped ahead of the diverse and colourful program’s full release.
Almost everyone loves a revealing doco, and this year’s MQFF has a doozy lined up. XY Chelsea is a look into the life of trans activist Chelsea Manning, the ex-army intelligence officer and Wikileaks whistleblower. The credentials say it all, right?
The Shiny Shrimps tells a ‘relatively’ true story of the French water polo team’s antics at the Croatian Gay games. The film is touted as ‘Priscilla in speedos’; one can only assume the desert’s been replaced by the pool.
There are several Aussie features on the bill, too. Unsound covers the delicacy of love, empathy and acceptance in Australia’s current climate, with Game of Thrones Chris Noi as the lead. While Sequin in a Blue Room is a provocative and relevant tale of a young man exploring his sexuality during the age of dating apps and social media.
Early headliner, Tell It To The Bees has also been announced, and it stars Academy Award Winner Anna Pacquin. Set in the 1950s, Pacquin plays a Scottish doctor ostracised from her community after entering into a passionate relationship with a younger woman.
Running from Thursday 12 March to Monday 23 March, passes and special event tickets are available now.
