After wrapping up your short work week, you should have plenty of energy left to visit some of the best art, music and foodie events in Melbourne, guys! Here are the best things to do in Melbourne this weekend.

All Weekend

Art Town at Chapel Street

One of Melbourne’s biggest annual events, Art Town brings together some of the best local artists in a creative celebration stretching over two giant weekends. Artists are invited to create, design and illustrate in public areas around Windsor, Prahran and South Yarra. Visitors can explore and interact with art and artists starting Saturday.

The Queer Film Festival

The largest and longest-running queer film festival in Australia, the Queer Film Festival is running all weekend with a huge variety of features, documentaries and short film tickets up for grabs. Among the litter is the heart-warming, confronting film “Grandma”, starring Golden Globe nominated Lily Tomlin. Get your tickets here!

Preston Food Truck

Street food + beers = happy family, as science will (eventually) show. The Preston Food Truck Park has got you covered this weekend, with food trucks, music and loads of craft beer at this free event. We’re hoping you’ll have such a good time, you’ll forget about your full work week coming up.

Friday 1st

PS Launch in Footscray

Paradise Structures (PS) is launching this Friday! With live performances kicking off from 7pm, you’ll be treated to magic shows, comedy and local bands until dusk. The best part? You can BYO.

F is for France at the Food Social

The overachieving team at Food Social are working their way around the cuisines of the world—one letter at a time. Featuring F for France this Friday, get your tickets to a finger-licking night featuring Melbourne’s French Brassiere. Tickets get you entry to this food-filled night filled with canapés, three decadent shared-French mains and gloriously messy chocolate fondue.

Bon Ton Rythyms at The Gem

Bring your dancin’ shoes to The Gem Bar & Dining Room this Friday night as the Bon Ton Rythyms play their mix of ‘40’s, ‘50s, Blues, R&B and early R&R tunes. Yes, there’s certainly something for everyone. Get down early to score a seat at the bar, or otherwise book a table and enjoy some legit American BBQ by calling 03 9419 5170.

Saturday 2nd

Mr. G Summer Heights High Singalong

Back by popular demand (we assume), the Mr G. Summer Heights High Singalong is running at the Melbourne Comedy Theatre this weekend only! Bring the friend who doesn’t mind your off-pitch, cat-drowning-in-a-lake voice.

Recycled Boutique Scatter Sale at All Day Donuts

Recycle Boutique is hosting their quarterly scatter sale at All Day Donuts! Grab your favourite hole-y treat and try not to get sugar on these severely discounted designer products. Brands include Mossimo, Calvin Klein and Tony Bianco with everything on sale for five bucks…that’s less than brunch! Check out the details on the Facebook event here.

The Esplanade Market at St Kilda

Kicking off this Sunday, St Kilda’s Esplanade Market is one of the best open-air markets in Melbourne. With over 120 arts and crafts displayed, unique gifts, souvenirs, homewares and one-of-a-kind pieces of jewellery are all up for grabs. Tempting much?

The Autumn Design Market at Federation Square

Jemma & The Clifton Hillbillies at The Gem

For those craving their dose of alt-country music, look no further than Jemma & the Clifton Hillbillies’ gig at The Gem Bar & Dining Room this Sunday eve. Their debut full-length album released last September was nominated for The Age Victoria’s Best Country Album, so expect good things! If you wanna enjoy a BBQ feast while you’re at it, make sure you call 03 9419 5170 to reserve a table.

Dates For Your Diary

Dates for your diary, rum lovers! Appleton Estate has teamed up with some of our favourite bars to create an epic Tasting Trail. Held over three weekends, in three different venues the tasting trail will kick off on the 7th of April at Loop Roof, where you’ll be able to sample some of Appleton Estate’s top-notch drops in the comfort of tropical-styled surrounds. You’ll be able to continue on the trail over the following two weekends at Rochester Hotel and then Nieuw Amsterdam. From Jamaica with love.
