The Votes Are In | Melbourne’s Favourite Businesses

By Jessica Hackett
10th Dec 2013

Six weeks ago, we called on you to help us shape The Urban List by voting for your favourite local and independent businesses.

The votes came in thick and fast, with our lovely readers eager to support their local gems and help us sift through the crème de la crème of Melbourne's retail, hospitality and health & beauty businesses.

The results are in and we're super excited for your favourite businesses to now be a part of The Urban List!

So without further ado, here are the winners!

Honourable Mentions

Alterego Personal Training | 14-20 Abbott Street in Alphington
Rationale Skin Clinic | 531 Toorak Road in Toorak

Rooftop Bar

You cannot claim you are from Melbourne if you have not tackled the seven flights of stairs to Rooftop Bar, the CBD's sexiest rooftop drinking destination. Summer means chilling on their astro-turf with a burger and a cold beer, but cooler months promise umbrellas and gas heaters, welcoming all with the promise of belly pleasing, heart warming mulled wine. The Rooftop Bar also transforms into a Rooftop Cinema during the summer months – showcasing a plethora of indie darlings, rom-coms and other quintessentially hipster flicks and silver screen staples.

Level 7, 252 Swanston Street in Melbourne

Honourable Mentions

Republica | 10-18 Jacka Boulevard in St Kilda
The Toff in Town | 252 Swanston Street in Melbourne

DOC Pizza

Forget Lygon Street for a slice of Italy, the best pizza in Melbourne is lurking on the corner of Faraday and Drummond Streets at DOC Pizza. Here, pizza is the star, with the thinnest, crispiest bases and fine Italian ingredients; however, the mozzarella bar boasts an incredible selection of cheesy goods (just look at the map to see where yours comes from) that warrant a dairy degustation. Typically Italian, expect DOC to be loud, busy and brimming with cheeky waiters, so you may have to wait come peak hour, but you'll know it was worth your time once you bite into that famous pizza.

295 Faraday Street in Carlton

Honourable Mentions

Pizza Religion | 493 Tooronga Road in Hawthorn East
The Woodfrog Bakery | 108 Barkly Street in St Kilda

From private dinner to wedding bouquet, lulu bird has all of your floral arranging wishes close to heart. All flowers are picked from markets fresh daily, so expect fragrant, seasonal blooms that are almost too pretty for words. To have Miss Bird pick some posies for your office, wedding, birthday or even just to show someone you like them a bunch, call or visit their website to arrange an appointment today.
