With the Australia Day public holiday falling on a Monday, it’s officially the last year we can soak up a three day weekend (until 2024 that is).
So with that in mind, we thought it’s only fitting to round up all the best events happening on the long weekend, thanks to City of Perth. Gear up, it’s going to be a big one.
BYO Picnic At Skyworks
If there’s one thing to firmly lock into your weekend, it’s a picnic with all your mates in one of the Skyworks BYO Picnic Zones. Relax with some delicious drinks and some well assembled grazing boards in the lead up to the magnificent fireworks show at 8pm. But be sure to get in early and secure a good vantage point to watch the show unfold. Please note the BYO Picnic Zones allow 18+ event-goers to bring either one six pack of beer or mixed drinks, or one bottle of wine per adult to be consumed between 6.30pm and 8.45pm.

Lotterywest Entertainment Zone At The Australia Day Skyworks
You can enjoy a slew of free events at Lotterywest Entertainment Zone at Langley Park including free carnival rides, an international food market celebrating Australia’s diverse culture with dishes from around the globe, plus the mix94.5 & Channel Nine Skyworks Village is giving you the chance to win $1000 every 30 minutes from 3pm alongside loads of other activities. Adrenaline junkies can also enjoy the freestyle motocross and BMX stunt shows, bringing together the best of Australia’s extreme action talent where you'll gawk at amazing backflips, mind-blowing stunts and crazy tricks.

Birak Concert At The Australia Day Skyworks
The free entertainment at Skyworks continues with the Birak Concert at the Supreme Court Gardens. Celebrating Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander cultures and communities, you can expect energetic music, dance, art and delicious food.

Air Show At The Australia Day Skyworks
Turn your eyes to the sky to experience an impressive aviation display! The Air Show makes its return to Perth skies from 3pm with a packed schedule of aerobatic performances.

FRINGE WORLD
Returning to Perth from 17 January to 16 February at more than 150 venues all over Perth and regional Western Australia, there’s plenty to see and do at FRINGE WORLD over the Australia Day long weekend. With everything from comedy shows, musicals and even circus acts, there’s something for everyone to get around. Our tip? Make a beeline for one of the festival’s central hubs, such as The Woodside Pleasure Garden or Girls School, and enjoy the energetic atmosphere, tasty food trucks, pop-up bars and free entertainment.

Big Bash League
Nothing says Australia more than cricket. So, if you love your sport, make sure you get along to the Big Bash League on Friday 24 January to watch the Perth Scorchers take on the Adelaide Strikers.
