Perth’s Best Salads To Go

By Anna Franklyn

Is it just me or does finding a really amazing salad to go sometimes seem like a near impossible feat? I’m not talking about some soggy salad leaves with a couple of pieces of chicken thrown in. I’m talking about Ottolenghi style salads full of yummy grains, toasted nuts and only the very best veg.

So next time you’re craving something wholesome and delicious that won’t leave you starving, you know where to go. Here are 10 of Perth’s best salads to go.

Bayside Kitchen

There are always a few salads on offer at Bayside Kitchen so whether you’re after something really filling or something with a bit more greenery you’ll find what you’re after here. You can grab your salad to go but don’t go too far, sit down and enjoy the view while you’re in this neck of the woods!

The Black Truffle

North Fremantle

The Black Truffle’s salads are one of my biggest downfalls when it comes to saving money. I know I should buy some vegetables and make my own salad, but every time I walk into this place I can’t help but get a large container with a combo of my favourite salads. The pumpkin with goat cheese is a winner, as is the roast vegetable with giant cous cous.

If you can somehow make it past the nasi goreng and the nourish bowls at NOOD, the salads will always hit the spot. With flavour combos like quinoa, roast cauliflower, grapefruit and toasted almonds, or Asian inspired chicken or beef salad, these always satisfy my lunch time cravings.

Hobart Street Deli

North Perth

Everyone goes to Hobart Street Deli for breakfast, but am I the only person who finds it impossible to leave without getting some of their salads packed up in a takeaway container? The flavour combos change on the regs but they are all just as good as each other so you’ll never be disappointed.

Leake St Cafeteria

Probably the most hidden cafe in Fremantle, the team at Leake St Cafeteria are salad superstars. Think charred corn with jalapeno, green beans, fennel and smoked almonds with chilli dressing, or how about brown rice, charred broccoli, mixed sesame seeds and a miso dressing. The salad on offer changes every day but it’s always delish.

The cabinets at Panache are always choc-full of food that looks and tastes like it will make all of your problems disappear. Because people who eat salads full of satay chicken with black rice, eggplant chips, sautéed broccolini and fresh avo don’t have any problems, right?

Baguette Me Not

There ain’t no salad like a Baguette Me Not salad and their Egg Sheeran salad is the star of the show... geddddit? It’s their own homage to nasi goreng with brown rice, plenty of veg, shallots and a sunny side up egg, all topped with plenty of chilli. This bad boy will make you sing.

The Wolf The Bean The Walnut

You can always count on The Wolf The Bean The Walnut for a good variety of wholesome and filling salads. My top pick goes to the roast beetroot and pumpkin but really everything tastes as good as it looks here so just point at what you want and enjoy.

The Ladder

Mount Hawthorn

This little gem in Mount Hawthorn serves up a killer breakfast but their salads are just as good. There are usually three salads on offer at The Ladder and it’s almost impossible to pick between them, so just ask for a combo and call it a day.

The Red Chair

It turns out the team at The Red Chair are just as good at salads as they are at laksa! They change from day to day but the roast veg are always great and the Thai beef salad is one of the best! Pro tip: they keep these in the fridge next to the entrance so don’t be fooled into thinking you’ve missed out because you can’t see them in the main cabinet.
