There are two types of people in this world: those who like horror films and those who don’t. No points for guessing which side we fall into (it’s the pro-horror side, clearly). To get you in the ghoulish mood, here's our top horror movie picks on Netflix for all the spooking you can handle this Halloween.
The Orphan
If Russian orphans have always given you the creeps, then you probs shouldn’t watch this movie. The story follows a couple who adopt a young girl who then proceeds to terrorise their entire family and attempts to seduce the father. You know, normal family movie stuff.
Stranger Things
Stranger Things is the perfect ‘horror’ movie to dip your toes into the scary movie pool. While being shit-your-pants scary in parts, you still get plenty of ‘day light moments’ where you can sit calmly and not die of suspense. Plus, the actors in this one are too cute for words.
The Cabin In The Woods
The Cabin In The Woods is like Big Brother meets horror. Which is obviously a match made in heaven. A group of college students head out into a cabin in the woods for a fun weekend away, which of course takes a turn for the worst when ‘big brother’ starts making things interesting. Let’s just say you won’t pick the ending on this one.
The Babadook
The Babadook is one of the scariest movies ever. Literally, EVER. Playing on every child’s fear of the monster under the bed, you’ll be covering your eyes the entire time you watch this flick. A single mother struggles with her child’s fear of a monster after her husband’s death—what follows is a seriously scary flick.
It Follows
It Follows is hands down one of the creepiest movies we’ve seen in a long, long time. A curse that’s transferred via sex makes the holder of the curse convinced that they are being followed by a creepy AF presence that manifests itself in various different forms. The only way to get rid of the curse is to pass it on via sex. You clearly need to watch this movie.
Insidious
SCARIEST. MOVIE. EVER. That’s all we need to say—watch it. We dare you...
Sorority Row
Sorority Row is the text book funny-slash-scary movie that gets played at a slumber party. Staring The Hill's very own Audrina Partridge (we’ve missed you!) this flick tells the tale of a group of sorority girls who play a prank and, you guessed it, it goes horribly wrong! What follows is a flip-phone filled succession of likes, omgs and hair flicks.
The Woman In Black
Harry Potter is all grown up, you guys! Daniel Radcliffe is incredible in this very famous, truly terrifying gothic flick—it's creepy Victoriana at its terrifying best. The Woman Black will leave you scarred for life, terrified and afraid to turn the lights off—everything horror junkies want from a scary film!
Battle Royale
The OG Hunger Games, this Japanese movie ticks all the boxes: scary, violent and Japanese. A group of school kids wake up stranded on an island, each with a different weapon and must kill each other of to be the sole survivor. Don’t ask questions, just watch. Brutal.
Thank you Netflix. We may never sleep again. Happy Halloween folks!
